Does anyone other than me find it sad that only a foriegn head of state saying that heads should roll on Wall St?

Where is the outrage here?

Of course the business community snubbed what he said because it is the business community responsible while here in the U.S. the ordinary citizen is being the ones called responsible for this.

9-23-2008 Those behind market crisis should be punished: Sarkozy

Those responsible for the crisis that has swept global financial markets should be punished, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said overnight in his first reaction to the latest bout of economic turmoil.

In an acceptance speech at an award ceremony attended by U.S. and French business leaders, Sarkozy called for the "truth" on the crisis to be uncovered.

"Who is responsible for this disaster?

May those who are responsible be punished and held accountable"

Sarkozy's comments earned him a lukewarm reaction from the members of the business community

Every ceo that accepts this bailout should also resign. Unfortunately, some ceos have already jumped shipped before anyone realized the ship was sinking (like the aig ceo that left back in june). Also, merely firing a ceo is hardly punishment.

A lot of responsibility falls onto the heads of politicians and even the citizens who elected them. It was all the deregulation, failure to regulate derivatives, and failure to reign in fannie&freddie a few years ago that led us to this dire precipice.

"Topic Summary: Here in U.S. the ordinary citizen is blamed"

Hell yeah they are to blame. When you make the biggest purchase you will ever make in your fucking life and you have to sign 30 times.. might as well take a few minutes out to read WTF you are doing. Meanwhile we get people like Dave who wants to pick and choose what the government is allowed and not allowed to regulate.. whatever it takes to enable people to be more dumb though.

the professional mortgage lenders also should have read the documents and determine the borrowers could not afford the payments, they should also absorb the losses if the borrowers default on the loans.

How can you blame avarice? Is that a person? That is really what is to blame here, greed. Greed by bankers, greed by aspiring home owners. Impulsive, must-have-it-now greed for money. You can scapegoat it and you can find some worse than others, maybe some who broke laws, but avarice is the problem. Some of the top offenders should be punished.

Hopefully he can do the same on France's foreign actions, asking for the "truth" to be uncovered on France's participation in the Rwanda genocide. Those responsible (the ones still alive) should be punished and held accountable.
