9-11-01 The day America lost

Many may disagree but to me 9-11 was the day America lost.

Lost many many things:

Lost Liberty

Lost wealth

Lost Respect

and the list goes on

Do you see the towers restored, No.

I saw nearly 9 years of haggling over money over the property and they came up with the single "Freedom Tower" and the other buildings on the site.

There's more but I am in the middle of moving once again so don't have time to write right now.

US has acted poorly since 911 and poor actions make for poor results. It is absolutely worse off since 911 in great part because of its own missteps.

First off, knowing OP and seeing his post, this is a troll.

2nd: It took an action like this to show us how soft, lazy, spoiled, and ignorant we really are. The past 10 years are a fine testament to how shallow our culture really is. Both how we treat others and how we treat our own country.

My beef is that in 10 years you'd think we'd have improved as a culture and folks would be made of finer stuff. Actually I think we degraded a little bit each year.

Like I've said before, all you have to do it promise never to come back and I'll buy you a ticket to Somalia.

Based on everything I've seen the OP post lately I think he's a whiny little negative nancy. He probably likes to blame all his problems on other people.

You've probably never been to another country.

The lost freedoms are exaggerated.

Sure the 2000s were a time of decline that continues into the teens, but it's not because of 9/11. It's because of globalization and demographic changes in the US.

9/11 provided an opportunity that we squandered. Instantly, we had the hearts of people from across the globe. Then, within an administration or so, we had alienated many of those people to the point of hating America. On 9/11, we had instantly pulled together all Americans. Over the past 10 years, we have become more and more partisan.

America will go the way of Atlantis. We're all doomed! We must pray more!

Or...we should get rid of our dumb politicians. Lets face it, our leaders have been for the most part retarded for the last decade. R or D they're all about as dumb as can be when it comes to running the country.

Its time to go back to a pre-911 mentality. Things weren't rosy back then, but they were collectively more sane. We learned the wrong lessons from 911, which only hasten our decline.

the point is really the fact that the terrorists involved, got exactly what they wanted and hoped to get out of it.
it had a far reaching impact on our society, it became well known history, it altered how we do many things like security..etc. they wanted to impact the psyche of americans in general, something that would last for years...not an easy feat really geologically speaking.
even the oklahoma bomber or the mail bomber was never able to reach such infamny considering how much 9/11 is discussed, emtional impact years later...etc.

Infohawk, why wouldn't they? You're thinking so small. Not saying they were geniuses or anything, but seems like a good first step to getting the entire world to turn against those whom you attacked.

You know what pisses me off? It took over 9 years for us to give the 9/11 first responders the health benefits they deserved for putting their lives on the line and sacrificing their health.

America is fully capable of destroying ourselves without terrorists.

I'm gonna rub a few of you the wrong way but I'm gonna say it anyways since it's spewed so often on the radio either in this context or with regards to "our men and women in uniform". Using these catch phrases like "sacrificing their health" and "putting their lives on the line" strikes me as slightly odd when we're talking about people simply doing their jobs. I agree that someone who signs up to be a first responder or a police officer deserves a big thank you and a pat on the back but it's not like they're doing more than what the job calls for. Were you expecting them to stand outside the buildings? A firefighter that runs into a burning building is brave no doubt but in the end he's just doing his job and not "putting his life on the line and sacrificing his health".

This was far beyond the normal hazards of their jobs. If it weren't, this wouldn't have been an issue. They'd have full and complete coverage.

Normal hazards? What does that even mean? I simply disagree. I liken it to soldiers who, after 911, were upset that they were going to be deployed to Afghanistan to fight a war. They figured that when they signed up in 1999 and it was peaceful that it would remain that way and it never dawned on them that they would be shitting on themselves next to 12 other guys on some mountain halfway across the world. Same thing applies to first responders. You should figure on the worst. Are you a cop? You should be prepared for the end scene in Heat. That's the way the job goes sometimes.

Incidentally this was one of my biggest gripes about our response to Katrina. Fema and first responders weren't ready. Why not? Why were they not prepared for the worst? Saying it was far beyond the normal duty in that case is an even worse argument since we all saw Katrina and Rita coming days ahead of time.
