im getting a new mobo and athlon processor, but currently its saying my videocard (9200) goes up to 8x, but only 4x is supported.what does this mean, or am i totally wrong about my 9200 being 8x capable.can the mobo limit what it can do? and if so will my new setup allow 8x? its just all i higher screen rate correct? just learning, any info is appriciated.

Thanks, Eli

well, i was under the impression i can take that card to 8x.am i right? im just hoping my new board would possibly allow that.

yuor current probably only supports agp4x(it only has a 4x slot) whne yuo get a 8x slot, 8x will be automatically on.
8x is just faster data transfer rate. 33mhz x 8 vs 33mhz x 4.

cool.hope this new mobo allows it! i just realized it was set to 4x.probably wont be an amazing difference if i get to run 8x i dont guess, i just like to get the most out of what i have!

It makes 10 times more difference in newer games than UT2003?

EDIT: looking back, it actually seems like it doesn't even make 1% difference for UT2003.

Is a 9200 fast enough that it will make a difference? I can see it making more difference in a card like a 6600gt or X800XL, but I'm not so sure on a 9200.

Do you have some benchmarks showing the difference in newer games?

aroun 10% for far cry

lesser ram(assuming same quantity) makes about a 5-7% difference on AMD64s(pc2100 v.s. pc3200). latencies affect it a bit more(5-7% again from cas 2-3) dual channel will gain you another 5% these are max and not fro games specifically, but for most real world(non sandra, non benchie apps).

as for older video cards, i dont think anythig like a previous gen Geforce3 ti 500 would be able to run farcry or the newest games(DOOMIII) and any signifigant playable speeds at resolutions/settings that would tax the agp bus too much.
