and the little bastard deserved it
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-01-04/texas-student-shot/52379064/1

As teachers initiated the school's emergency procedures, locking their classroom doors, turning off the lights, drawing the shades, and calming their confused and worried charges, some students took comfort by climbing under their desks. One boy said he heard police officers charge down the hallway and shout "put down the gun." Then shots, three of them, most students said.

What I don't get is the woman talking about imitators. What kid is stupid enough to see this situation and go "Yup, that's what I want to do." If you raised kids like that or know kids like that, they probably deserve it and you should just shut your idiotic mouth.

Some kids just feel unnoticed and forgotten and want attention. When I was in HS my best friend killed himself and the school refused to acknowledge him or his death for fear that other kids would think that if they followed suit they'd get public recognition.

That's silly.

Maybe she thought "Heathers" was a documentary?

I'll never understand how things can go that badly with a kid who's only in 8th grade. I imagine though that it's some combination of bad parenting and an indifferent school system. Kids don't just magically turn out bad, they're not born wanting to do stuff like this.

I wonder if he owned a copy of Grand Theft Auto...

and if he did own a copy it was pay off for him being quite about being routinely molested.

This happened where I'm from, child molestation is a much more common thing in the Hispanic community.

(can provide citations)

also: this on kiplinger's top 10 list of poorest and most poorly educated regions in the US. His "parents" are probably (by this i mean have a greater than 50% chance) of being a single coked up* high-school drop out who who had him while a teenager.

*coke is very low cost in Brownsville

BTW the cops are from the exact same social situation.

Was it that hard to trick an 8th grader to avoid killing him? Sometimes I wonder if an average cop has a brain bigger than a donut.

this is true too, but at the same time it is texas. kids are born with guns in their hands there.

also, i agree with the sentiment that it's sad this kid is so fucked up. i wonder if any word of his parents comes out

Its fing crazy when cops are executing children in school hallways, esp when he just has a pellet gun. Cops are supposed to be trained to handle situations like this w/o killing someone. A lot of kids are a bit mental at that age. You can't just shoot them in front of their classmates.

When people talk about big govt tyranny, this is the examples that come to my mind. Not only did they not resolve the situation without killing someones child, they scarred many of the other students there. Incompetance and cowardice of an 8th grader with a bb gun. Shameful.

apparently he had a pellet gun, dumbass.

The problem is that pellet gun looked just like a super dangerous fully automatic handgun.

The stupid kid refused to drop his weapon when asked to, and the cops only learned AFTERWORDS that he only had a pellet gun. And even a pellet gun can be lethal if it hits a vital spot, such as an eyeball.

Anyone holding a gun has forfeited their life. The only requirement I hold on police is to reasonably give the shooter a chance to surrender, at gunpoint.

This actually happened close to where I live and the USA today article leaves out a very important detail, either due to sloppy journalism or because they have an agenda. The pellet gun the kid was waving around was one of the ones that is designed to look like a real firearm; I saw a picture of it on the local news and I would be hard pressed to tell the difference at a distance in a tense situation and I'm a firearm enthusiast. Here's a better article that shows a picture of the pellet gun in question:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57352546/8th-grader-killed-by-texas-police-had-pellet-gun/

As you can see, it looks very, very similar to a real 9mm semi automatic handgun so I can understand why the police reacted the way they did, especially if he was pointing it at other people.

Perhaps no lower velocity weapon should be allowed to look like the real thing, not that it wasn't dangerous enough as it is. If they knew what they were dealing with, perhaps certain shields and body armor could have forced the situation to resolve differently.

There is no room for error in a serious confrontation that could result in innocent deaths. Kill or die, there is nothing else.

No they're not, and neither is anyone else because it's not possible to do reliably and safely. If it's a potentially lethal encounter, you kill them when they make a threatening move. Period. Every time. No matter what. From all reports available so far (though it may change) they responded 100% correctly.

Cops are trained to handle these situations and DO NOT WANT TO SHOOT A KID! how would you have handled it? tell us since you know everything fucking tell us how you would have handled it.

I have a .177 pellet gun that look exactly like a colt python .357. see pic below, hell its even double action. i guarantee you if i pointed it in your direction you would do 1 of 2 things. run or cry.

No actually, cops are trained to gun a person down if the dumbass in question pulls a gun on the cops.

Pellet guns are suppose to have an easily visible orange piece of plastic on the muzzle. If the kid removed this "safety" feature well then the cop had really no choice then to employ deadly force in this case. imo.

He was 15 so the reports of him being a eighth grader is a bit misleading on the age.

A 15-year-old student was shot and killed by police after he brandished a weapon in the hallways of a south Texas middle school, officials said Wednesday.
