On one of my many trips to AAU nationals, there were 8th graders that were 6'8" and 6'9". The "Atlanta Celtics" had 3 players that were over 6'7". A 6'4" 8th grader is more common than you think at that level of play.

Yeah, kid sizes and athletic ability are starting to get ridiculous. You got parents who have their kids spend an inordinate amount of time training and going to camps at a very early age. I see it with a few kids in my son's T-ball league.

Well, he's still an infant, so if he signed anything, he can repudiate anytime before he turns 18 or reasonably thereafter. Still, an 8th grader with a college acceptance. No matter what, that's some bragging rights

Things like this are just marketing for the particular program. UK does this partly to get exposure to west coast players. Remember Taylor King and his commitment to UCLA before HS? He bolted for Duke after that.

Average height in the US is like 5'10.5" now. 6'4" is nothing unusual, especially when you're looking at a sport that favors taller athletes like basketball. A 6'4" athlete with the athletic ability and technique more commonly found in 5'10" athletes however, is unusual and attracts the attention of colleges.

Sometimes, if you are going to be tall, it happens early. I was 6'0" when I was 13 and I was 6'3" (my final height) by the time I was 15.
