Saw this at my local Costco (Orland Park, IL). B&M only, not found in website. As always YMMV at other locations.

Seems like a good price but be aware that the MY Book series (and others) use encryption on these drives that cannot be turned off.

So data recovery on these drives wouldn't be possible? From what I read in that thread, the adaptor circuit board that comes with the case has the encryption, not the actual HDD itself. Would removing the HDD from it's case prior to it's initial usage bypass that encryption?

If the drives fail, you're kinda SOL.

Yes, you could shuck the drive and use it in a desktop computer of put it in another external enclosure.

I already have this for my other internal HDD drives conected via SATA 3.0 . Looks like I'll do it to these drives.
