8RDA+ problems

Have had my 8RDA+ for the past few weeks happily plugging along. So today, a package arrives on my step containing my 512mb stick of Kingstong PC3000 HyperX. I decided to install the memory, so I take out my video card to access the ram, remove my Corsair PC3500, and pop in the HyperX. Lo and behold, now I can't get the board to post anymore. Tried clearing the CMOS, no go. Tried using PC3500, 3200, and 2700 RAM, no go. Tried another video card, no go.

The LED hangs at 2b, beeps like this "beeeeeep beep beep" then proceeds until it reaches 7F where it hangs. Anybody have any suggestions?

Now it seems to switch between that freeze and no post and a 25 error code with no post.

Try holding down on the "Insert" key (have it powered down) and then hit the power button and continue to hold till it boots... Also have you updated the bios from the as shipped one...?

Tried holding down the insert key but no go. I haven't touched the BIOS yet cause I haven't had a problem with it in several weeks.

There seems to be a problem with these boards reading the timings from memory modules.


I have a nice stick of 512MB Samsung in my parent's P4 machine, which could quite nicely be swapped for my crappy pair of PC2100, but, it doesn't boot properly with it in, and I can't yet afford to have both systems down for too long while I play with it, so I haven't found an answer. I'll keep my eye on this thread, though

Thing is, I've tried Samsung PC2700, Corsair PC3500, and Kingston HyperX PC3500 and it refuses to post. Now the "25" code is starting to show up more and more.

Try throwing the latest BIOS on a floppy by itself, start the system with the floppy in the drive, and see what happens. Let it go for about 10 minutes before you call it quits.

No go on that too Still getting the 7F error also. Interesting note is when I smash a bunch of random keys, all 3 lock LEDs on the keyboard flash like a reset. Hmm.

I know there's another way to reset the CMOS. Is it hitting insert that does this?

BigJ2078, you mentioned that you took out your video card to add the RAM, and looking at a photo of the Gainward Ti4400, it does look rather long. Did you by any chance knock off some surface-mounted devices when you replaced the video card, as depicted here?

You might try setting the 100/133/166 jumper to the 100/133 range (by uncapping JCLK next to the northbridge), reset the CMOS again, dangle the motherboard threateningly over the toilet for a minute, and then see if it feels like powering up. The 100/133 range isn't the one you'd usually use, but hey, it's worth trying it to get a POST.

Damn you, Tom! You made me literally LOL, and my mum's trying to get to sleep in the next room :disgust:

If you've got some more RAM (the original stuff), try putting that back in, and setting the memory speeds manually.

I owe the toilet trick to a newbie who pointed out that it was MUCH quicker than filling up the bathtub like I had been recommending up 'til then. Saves water, too.

hmmmm u say that u heard "beeeeeep beep beep" sound? hmmm its seems it has something to do with ur Video card & monitor attached to it... are u sure u didnt broke any part of ur videocard when u removed it from the socket? try reinserting it again firmly, attach the minitor cable & power on... hope it would work if u havent broken ur VC....
