8rda+ instability....

bjc112

Lifer
Well guys i got my 8rda+ my older 2200+, new Kingston 3200 along with an FIC 9500 pro...

I started this setup on 2k with almost no success, Windows loaded fine but my internet refused to work with the Enabled On-Board Lan, or a separate NIC....I could run UT2003 for about i match before it would give me General protection fault, or totally lock. My temps are hovering around 45-47 so its not heat, i have a 350 sparkle which should be doing the job fine in the PSU area.

Why no internet in 2k?

I figured since i was having no luck with 2k i would throw on XP... Well i did that and it somehow fixed my internet woes and i was working... For about 30 minutes, my problems then moved on to Blues screens that my 9500 was stuck in and infinite loop. (Cat 3.5's)

Also have the Nforce 2.03 drivers.

Something is up with this system and i can't put my finger on it,

Should fast write be disabled?
Does the 9500 have problems running in 8x AGP?

Does UT need to be patched ? Because i was successful at running 3dmark and scoring about 13000, nothing tweaked or updated...

I just don't understand why the infinite loop would start arriving...

I'm stuck on this one guys, any help would be great...

Thanks.

::::EDIT:::: Just some updates...

I cannot run this setup at 13.5X133 stable, however i can run 195x9 and it runs sweet.
Temps are about 51c, and memory timings are even relaxed some... 2/3/3/7 (just incase)

What bios are you running on the Epox? Also, did you do all the windows updates and install DX9 before the 3.5's?

3/5 BIOS...

Oh, i did pass that up... That is most likely the cause of the inifinte loop?

Thanks Insane, i'll report back..

🙂

Insane, downloaded DX9, popped the 3.5's on and when i rebooted it locked on the desktop and then gave me infinite loop...

😕

I'mn going to remove everything i have of Ati and try it again, but i might go for the 3.2's..

I'll let you know..

The 3.5's work fine for me on my NF7-S with a 9700np...and on my 8RDA+, but with a 7500. I'll be on until about 7am EST, so I'll keep an eye on this thread...🙂

Well it seems i am starting to get the system "together" for now.. However i CANNOT get it stable at 2200+ speeds..

I have the voltage bumped to 1.8 vdimm is at 2.77(2.8)

😕

Prime 95 didn't make it pass the second test... \

What gives?

Ok...let's try to see if yours problems are CPU or memory related. Can you change the multiplier on that CPU?

Its seems to be CPU,

If i lower the multi. to around 8 i can run up a 190-195 FSB before i lose stability...

It seems the CPU can't run stable in this board at 2200+ yet the guy i bought it off said it would do 145FSB... I believe him, i just think there is something else at fault...

Thanks for the help!

Hmmm... I wonder if maybe it's a incompatibility with the 2200+? Is it a Tbred A core? Have you snagged the latest bios?

Well Throughbred A's aren't unlocked correct?

The BIOS says 3/5/03 which i though was the newest version...

Flashed new BIOS.

STILL unstable at 2200+ speeds, now running 180x9 for 1630 mhz... Going to see how prime 95 does for about 30 minutes...

What the hell is going on that i cannot run this at 2200+

Now get this Insane,

I can run 195x9 for a 1763 mhz and it runs perfectly fine, yet i can't run the default 13.5X133?

What gives?

Can you run at the default multiplier and the default FSB? There is no guarantee that something will run overclocked, even if it is only the FSB that is overclocked and the multiplier is lowered to compensate. If that doesn't work, try underclocking. If that doesn't help, then it's probably something other than the CPU. FWIW, you should always put stuff back to the defaults when you flash the BIOS. Flashing with anything overclocked is a recipe for disaster.

Edit: sorry, I see you tried default and it doesn't work. 🙁

I would try removing, cleaning and re-thermal greasing the cpu/heatsink plates. Especially if the CPU craps out after a certain amount of time, aka warm up time.

Did that... But watching the Epox USDM I'm peaking at around 51C on test 692 or whatever... Think heat is my problem?

Jlie, That is whats odd, how can it not even run default FSB AND MULT. but i can run at 195 FSB stable?

Keep em coming guys, im stuck.

Bryan!

😀

My old 8k7a is here but got zapped in a power surge...

I was also thinking along the lines of a possible bad CPU but how the hell can it even work at 1764mhz ?

If a CPU is bad, its BAD right?

😕

Did you not buy this new from a store? If you didn't there could be problems with it, if it was used and someone was just looking to get rid of it for some cash, for 50-70 bucks pick yourself up a 1700+ or 2100+ tbred rev b, cpu, they overclock very well are cheap and should be stable. Look to svc.com or newegg.com for em. Also what kind of Kingston memory is it? Value or the Performance stuff? You should check out ur memory timings in the bios, becuz if it's value, u might need ta lower em for stability.

The reason net worked in XP, is because XP does a very simple basically no configuration needed setup with networking, 2000 is by no means difficult but can be more troublesome in some cases, because it is indeed older (no offense to any win2000 users)
