8RDA+ and Crucial PC2700 not compatible?

I'll be the first to admit I'm pretty new to OC'ing.
I just finished putting together my new 8rda+ system. XP2100+ B, antec SX835II case (350W), Thermalright sk-7 with YS-Tech variable fan and 512mb of crucial pc2700.
This thread might explain all my fustrations. I had many problems installing XP until I lowered mem to 133. Thought no problem must be an install thing and got eveything installed before I started messing with the bios.
I can not run stable at 166. My cpu temp stays between 32 and 34C and I will get random reboots. I am now at 133 and no reboots. I still have the 1/29 bios. I have been blaming it on my lack of experience and planned to read the forums to get a better handle on this.
Before I pull my hair out tonight I'll take any suggestions. Or should I send it back for something else.

Hmm, what was your multiplier set to, when you were trying 166? Anything radical, or did you try to stay down near the stock MHz level of the CPU?

I tried many different multipliers trying to get it stable ranging from 10 to 12.5. I installed Xp at 11.5 x133 , (it said xp1500) set to optimal. I am now running 13 X 133. I haven't touched any other settings (yet)

I have 2 512 sticks of crucial 2700 Running 12x166 in 8rda had a little prob at first but raised voltage a bit and no problems.
XP2100 proc.

Incus, raise your voltage for mem and cpu This is same prob I had

I had an experience with this over the weekend. I upgraded a computer for a friend to an MSI N-Force2 K7N2G-L, XP2400+ and a new stick of 512 PC2700 Crucial to be paired with a 512 PC2100 Crucial.

After HOURS of WinXP installation problems, I removed the Pc2700 and it Installed like a charm. I RMAd it to NewEgg, and if there is a problem with the new one I will contact Crucial directly for a replacement stick of PC3200....

i'm having this exact same problem.


here's the specs


Epox 8rda+ nforce 2 mobo
2 sticks of crucial 256mb pc2700 ddr ram
Athlon XP 2100
80gig wd special editition drive
pioneer 16x dvd rom
lite on 52x burner
at radeon 9700 )not pro)
win2k sp2


Anyway, at 133mhz it runs flawlessly. hell, i'll even bump the fsb up to 150 and it runs like a tank. solid.

but when i move it to 166mhz, all of a sudden get all kinds of errors in memtest 86, games crash, 3dmark wont run. random reboots for no reason. all that stuff.




so anyway, it happens with the 256meg sticks too. i'm gonna get a hold of crucial about it. if i find out anything new, i'll keep everyone posted.

Okay everyone I'm ordering my stuff tomorrow. I was going to get 1 stick of Corsair XMS PC2700 512meg and just buy another one next month because I can't afford 2 at this time. My plan was to buy the PC2700 Crucial and get the whole 1gig up front until this issue popped up about a week ago. How do you guys feel about this NOW? I saw that tech response from Crucial but have they added it back on the supported list?

How much of an actual speed difference will I notice in going with Corsair over Crucial anyway? 50mhz doesn't matter to me. I want to OC my 2100+ but if the Crucial gets me to 2350 as opposed to the Corsair getting me to 2400 I don't really care. I'm not interested in paying 100 bux extra for 5 fps! So, if that is about the only difference in what I can expect between the two please let me know

Well i e-mailed crucial yesterday but they havnet really told me anything.

And there's no "ram compatibility chart" on epox's site (as far as i could tell). so anyone got any recommendations? i'm putting this together for a client of mine and i dont really want to be RMA'ing stuff for weeks.

Twinmos/winbond or kingston hyperx are the way to go for the 8rda+ boards, especially the epox.

I'm looking at newegg and 256mb sticks of the hyperx kingston ram run about the same as crucial. if that would be something to go for, i'll just RMA these today.......

After many emails, it still isn't clear whether there is a known problem or
just a few aberrations with your PC 2700 512 MB modules regarding the nForce

technical forums, in the final results once they've been determined.

From a cutomer's perspective, removing any of your modules from your Memory
Selector, even temporarily, indicates there may be a problem - even if there
isn't.

goddamn this is pissing me off. the worst part is that i'm building this thing for a client and he wants it tomorrow. jesus.......................

Yep, I'm having the same problem with my Kingston PC2700 on my 8RDA+. It won't run at PC2700/DDR333 even with just one stick installed and set to run at PC2700 at aggressive mode. I wonder what the solution is going to be? I hope we don't have to buy new memory. These sticks ran at PC2700 just fine on my Epox 8K3A+ last week.
