8GB Non-ECC DDR3 DIMMs at NewEgg finally...

I don't know why, but the sudden realization that I could actually install 32GB of RAM in my rig just gave me a ridiculously huge smile.

Not that my bevy of 32bit apps could use it (sore point with me, long story, I have an app that NEEDS more than 2GB of addressable space for data but it crashes because it wasn't programmed for it 😡) but it crosses a threshold of reality in my circa 1980's psyche that just makes it super cool.

I thought my current 18GB was plenty.... Hmm..... ::big grin::

Is there a triple channel board that will run 48GB?

SB i3-2100 and up supports up to 32GB.
S1366 CPUS only up to 24GB.
S1155 CPUs up to just 16GB.

At least thats what Intel says so.

4x8GB for 32GB of RAM? Sometime in the last decade we must have left the present and entered the future. Also, our computers have Terabytes of storage.

16GB of RAM just doesn't cut it nowadays. All those emails, web pages with images, not to mention youtube videos, whoo boy! Just imagine what would happen to my computer if I dared to play a card game at the same time. All that swapping to the swap partition would really hamper my Solitaire game.

And that's why I need 2 packs of these for 32 GB of RAM.

When they become dirt cheap, that is. 😛

ADATA XPG Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model AXDU1333GW8G9-2G

Considering the price-premium these 8GB dimms have to their 4GB counter-parts, they need to be at least DDR3 2133 before I'd consider them.

That's actually not so horrible on a $/GB basis; the 4GB DIMMs started a lot higher than $82.50 apiece IIRC. Of course, the 8GB DIMMs will come down in time, too.

I'll expect prices of them to drop pretty quick, demand should be low when 16GB for $100 these days is already friggin overkill, not to mention a lot of boards can't even support that much RAM, and DRAM makers are most likely transitioning to make 8GB DIMMs mainstream. Whether it will hit GB/$ as crazy as now remains to be seen.

DDR4 won't be out til 2014 and not mainstream 2015 according to JEDEC. Actually I'm not even sure if it will see the light of the day...The market is already moving away from the traditional desktop/laptop segment to justify another new memory standard for both.

Why don't you just flag it as LLA?

As it is a financial transaction program, the exe file is secure and detects any changes to it as being suspect and refuses to run afterwards.

The ideal solution would be for the program maintainer to release a 64bit version, but they are not inclined to do so (it has been requested by many users on many occasions).

i see, that is unfortunate.

Dag, they're already OOS on them. Specs aren't so great, though. CAS 9 , DDR 1333, doesn't seem like this is OCing RAM in any way. This is the camel's nose under the tent. I think other vendors will inevitably follow. I wonder what the effects will be on today's modern memory controller in Sandy Bridge, Gulftown and other chips. Seems like some of the old limitations imposed by legacy MMCs are a thing of the past. But I recall older generations, when confronted by even 2GB DIMMs, wouldn't play nice with overclocking. With RAM like this, obviously it's all about the data sets and not about tweaking.

With 32 gigs of ram I'm sure my web surfing will be flying and the apps I use will open before I even think about using them!!!!!!
