8900 release?

Anyone have any idea or a best guess when Nvidia will release the 8900XX cards? I am building a new system and prefer to get the new 8900 if I am going to spend $600-700 on a video card.

I have though about also getting the new P35, however decided not to wait for DDR3 to get into market more as it could be a long time. I would like to have this build by end of June.

thx

No freaking clue. I don't think there is any motivation for Nvidia to release any 8900's.
I have 70 days left to step up through eVGA, but I don't think there will be anything new from NV in that time frame. If anything, I'll step up to a 8800GTX.

I doubt it will be anytime before fall, and maybe not even until the end of year. I was hoping they would release it this summer so I could step up my 8800GTS (got til mid July on that) but that doesn't appear likely now.

Even though I'm partial to Nvidia, I was hoping for ATI's latest to be better than it is. That would have forced Nvidia's hand on their next part which I'd bet they could ramp up production on pretty quick if they wanted to. But as it stands, they have nothing to worry about right now and will probably sit on it as long as they can.

Heh, so the rush of "when is 8900 coming" threads has started already... Someone should make a sticky every time this happens

Currently, the recommendation from Anandtech and other sites is to go P35 and DDR2 if you're doing a new build. P35 looks to be a little more mature P965.

Thats half of my reason for trading off my 8800GTS. I just really don't need it yet, and last gen cards are still great.

Ill wait towards the end of this year ( when more things are DX10 ) then go with a 8900 or the R600 refresh. But only time will
tell when either of these will be released.

at least the prices are falling slowly........the 8600 gts is now under 200 for the non OC and the 8800 gts 640 is about 10 to 15 dollars cheaper making it 350 before mail in rebate so maybe they are going to become more reasonable before I make my purchase at the end of the month.

Your sistem is still pretty good. I would overclock your 4200+ and get 8800GTS 640 if the mobo you have is PCIe.

Should be out by September if they're keeping to a refresh between 6-9 months after a new generation is released. G80 came out last November. August/September should be refresh time.

My motherboard doesnot support PCIe, I am still on AGP.

I will probably do my build beginning of July, so looks like Ill just stick with an 8800GTX.

thx

Well, it has been just over six months since G80's release. We were hoping that Nv would stick to it's six month cycle, but with no incentive to do so, we all lose out. I was afraid of this happening, and this is one of those times where I am not glad I was right.

even lower ... try $309 after $30 MIR for the EVGA 640GTX

i think nvidia is gonna use "pricing" against the HD2900xt ... they already made a bundle of cash and can "afford" to do so

but the GTX pricing probably won't be affected much

i *guess* we will see a 8900 when nvidia shifts to a smaller process and can produce a cheaper GPU to sell for the same price as they current GPUs

---and if AMD ever gets off its butt with a real "flagship" XTX ... nvidia might feel a need to really compete ... again

NVIDIA confirms Next-Gen close to 1TFlop in 4Q07
In recent analyst conferences that were publicly webcast on NVIDIA's website, Michael Hara (VP of Investor Relations) has claimed that their next-generation chip, also known as G92 in the rumour mill, will deliver close to one teraflop of performance. In a separate answer to an analyst's question, he also noted that they have no intention from diverging from the cycle they have adopted with the G80, which is to have the high-end part ready at the end of the year and release the lower-end derivatives in the spring.
yeah, hes a marketer :p some info anyway.

And finally, he mentioned that although he does not believe R600 will have any impact on their G80 sales, RV610 and RV630 are much more competitive parts that are likely to gain traction in the marketplace.

I just wanna see the 640MB GTS hit around $320 without needing rebates. Then I'll probably grab one.

i'll wait a bit longer and then proly get another gts 640 too. i'd like to get it close enough to step up to a 8900 though. i guess they'll definitely be ~$300 otd then.
