8800GTX vs 8800GTS Fan Noise

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the fan noise of the 8800GTX vs. 8800GTS? I've read (I think) that they have the same cooler. Insane as it may sound, I'm thinking of upgrading my GTS to a GTX but for the performance gains (I'm thinking around 20%) I'll skip it if it's obnoxiously loud though. My GTS is extremely quiet. Thanks.

The cooling and noise should be identical.

Thanks guys. After doing a little research, I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade now anyway since the somewhat modest performance gains make it hard justify the $250 step up price. I can't return it to Newegg anymore since I sent the rebate in, even though I'd obviously forfeit a rebate on the new one. I think I'll just wait and perhaps step up to next gen if it comes out in the next 90 days.

The GTX is very quiet and you will probably not hear it over your case fans. Also, you likely will never get the fan to spin up to 100% unless you force it with a third party application like Riva Tuner.

Nvidia did a great job designing a quiet cooling solution for the GTX, too bad it does such a lousy job of exhausting hot air out of the case.:frown:
