Aside from financial ruin, what can the rest of us expect if we decide take the plunge?

What kind of benchmarks are you seeing? How's the heat and noise? What kind of PSU are you using?

C'mon, tell us everything!

Oblivion @ 8xs AA+HDR and 16xUQ AF @ 1680x1050 :: Drools ::
Unfortunately the 8800's haven't yet been able to allow such AA. That feature might come with a registry hack, but so far no one has been able to force it. Hopefully Nvidia didn't drop its super sampling.

Sorry for the off topic, anyways.

I'm interested in user experiences with G80 SLI as well.

I have to have Vsync. Does Vsync work well enough for me to consider the power of two GPU's or will I have to sacrifice chopped-up graphics in order to have fluent operation? Part of the reason I went away from SLI was the fact that some games just didn't utilize it right sometimes and when they did, it acted glitchy, choppy, and sometimes put a drag on frames. Single setups are much more appealing in the sense that they're cheaper, offer great performance, and possibly offer better image quality than SLI rigs since Vsync can always be enabled easily and fluidly on them. I'd rather have good IQ with good performance than a distorted, ripped IQ with unparalleled performance, but that's just me.

So, how does G80 SLI do with Vsync?

Wow, maybe I was overestimating the wherewithall of the AnandTech community. Hey 8800GTX SLI owners, we're waiting to hear from you!

Since an 8800GTX can handle almost anything at stupid resolutions, I don't think many people see a need to do SLI at this point, regardless of expense.

That's a fair point, but I'd be very surprised if nobody on this board went ahead and bit the bullet(s). You can bet on Alan Wake and Crysis to test the limits of the 8800GTX at 1920x1200 when those games make their appearance next year.

Sli for the G80 maybe a little buggy. nVIDIA told reviewers not to do SLi for now, but even then some of the sites did review SLi.

Let me make sure I understand, aside from Ronin (big surprise there:)), nobody is even thinking about running 8800GTXs in SLI?

Did nVidia make the 8800 cards too powerful? Did it inadvertently destroy any incentive for people to buy two cards for SLI?

soon enough with some of the winter releases this will change. The other problem was that Crysis was delayed.

By the time it's out, there might be some revisions so if you are happy with what you have now, there's really no reason to switch (like me: 8800GTX=x1900 Crossfire)

I certainly have thought about it... Right now though, not only do I not have the need for SLI, but I really don't even have a use for it. I honestly don't imagine that I would notice one bit of difference in any games. Also, I am kind of enjoying the "single life" again. SLI certainly works well, but it still has more complications that a good, solid single card just doesn't have. I'll have to see how demanding new games are in 2007 before I'll really consider SLI. I'm really surprised that NV didn't work with a developer to get a good, demanding game out for the 8-series launch because everything out now that I've tried is pretty much child's play to this card.

8800GTX in SLI might have its uses. Three Dell 3007's in the "Triple-Head-To-Go" setup would probably be pretty demanding.

I'll probably SLI the G80's refresh card. For right now one 8800GTX is enough for me.

Playing games using 16xS with PLAYABLE Fps would be so awesome. (Add in the usual 16x12 16xAF etc)
