It's quite possible nvidia will choose not to expose HDR+AA on DX9 at all, but wait for DX10. We'll just have to wait and see.

I base that comment upon firiing squad's Dx10 article and this slide contained therein, btw.

Just going by those 8800 numbers, there doesnt seem to be that big of a jump right now from my 7950GX2 (At least in FEAR)
Wait until reviewers do a comparison between the 7950 and the 8800 GTX in Fear. I think you'll find the performance difference is higher than you think.

But turning off AA and enabling SS should fix that correct?
No. To get them both running at once you need to force 4xAA from the driver control panel while enabling soft shadows in Fear.

You will be able to confirm they are both working because - in addition to the huge performance hit - you'll see artifacts and rendering glitches as the two are not compatible in Fear.

In any case, I understand the beta drivers, but for this launch less than 4 days away, an informed computer enthusiast who has already benched the card without HDR+AA, and your link discussing nVidia's reservation in implementing such a feature on the hardware level all give a sense of last-second doubt. Many times nVidia's beta drivers have only been lacking WHQL certification and the driver itself it next to unchanged.

I sure hope they do use it as well as make some AF improvements. The "Application Controlled" AF setting in that guy's FEAR benchmarks has me concerned also.

We've already had various sources confirming HDR+AA, so I'm not sure why you're trying to raise doubts. They also confirmed new AF that is angle-dependant, which is already a huge improvement over what the Geforce 7 has now.

I took the guys numbers with atleast some legitimacy, but now you're putting too much in just one person's account (based on un-official drivers).

Really? Perhaps I just haven't seen any confirmed sources.

I'm not trying to raise doubt, just let people know my own so someone like you can come along and vanquish it. I'll be glad if I'm wrong.

Mike, while very generous, isn't a professional reviewer, who is running on pre-released hardware without official drivers.

Even without confirmation from nVidia themself, I think we could apply a little common sense. It was a hardware limitation preventing HDR+AA on the NV4*, and we know not only is G80 a new architecture, but one that also has a new AA and HDR engine.

So HDR+AA, imo, was already expected, and most other sources are generally claiming the same.

But to follow my own advice, let's just wait until review day, Wed. Nov. 8. 🙂

Would Nvidia really be stupid enough to leave out that feature? Come on, guys, they've already gone through this once before, with the NV30...

Ooh, it seems another members got his hands on a Geforce 8800GTX, as well.

Hi Matas, I have never OCed or benched a video card so I have no clue as to what I'm doing Mike is doing a great job in that dept I would love just to give one of my cards to someone who excels at this sorta thing so you guys get some solid results.

I can say this, running just one single 8800GTX has spanked my previous 7900GTX SLI setup and that's in 3D Mark05 and 06 and in game play as well.

I wish I could run both cards but my MB will not support it so I'm hanging in there for the 680i next week.

Nice to see someone knows whats up. SS+AA = unplayable. But then it doesn't really look all that great anyway. Some site took a look @ the way SS was being applied and snubbed it.
