Voltages are as follows according to NV Monitor, with motherboard setting in parentheses:

CPU: 1.3250V (Auto)
Memory: 2.2000V (Manual)
FSB: 1.2000V (Manual)
HT: 1.2000V (Manual)
nForce: 1.5000V (Auto)

I have LinkBoost turned off in the BIOS.

If you roll back to standard Microsoft video drivers (not downloads from nvidia.com) does the behavior change?

When I installed this box from scratch I went through a 3 week process of carefully tweaking everything. The Creative Platinum X-Fi was particularly tricky to get working. To complicate matters, I discovered I had some flaky RAM. This is about as stable a system as I can come up with - I only update drivers with trepidation (this being Vista 64.) I do have 2 8800GTS to replace this 7800GTX hopefully this week, not sure I want to complicate things right now by rolling back and then swapping cards out.

Rolling back typically takes one reboot and about 5 minutes. It would let you see if the BSODs stop when using known-good drivers.

Then I got lost and could not get much further...permissions errors and I was given commands to run that made no sense. Can one of you smart guys help - this is Vista 64

Logitech SetPoint software is a mess. I've used it on Vista 32 and 64 and on two different systems, yet SetPoint still causes BSOD's at apparently random times during the day. Uninstalling SetPoint eliminates the BSOD's, so at least it's not trashing something in the Vista installation.

Rollingback takes 5 minutes but I get ~1 BSOD per week so I still have to wait a week

So does it look like my crashes are Video oriented? If so I'm just going to wait to replace this card. The 7800GTX 512MB model I have was sort of a 'bastard child' that was quickly discontinued - I think that it is not tested as thoroughly by NVidia, Microsoft, and game manufacturers. 8800GTS x 2 on the way!

It looks like your crashes are video DRIVER related, which is why I'd asked if you could revert back to the MS drivers (which pass WHQ-labs testing and are heavily checked for bugs) and see if the problem continues. If it is a driver issue, it seems somewhat likely that (assuming code paths are the same) the 8xxx series will have the same issue if used in the same way.

AHHH....it just happened to me again...if I had listened to you and it happened I'd know more. Of course, if I had rolled back and not gotten a BSOD then i would not have known that I was going to get one but did not ;)

I'm thinking it has to do with a 3D game, while printing, and then clicking the right way with my mouse. I have an old Canon 820MG that serves its purpose, though slow, and there are Vista 64 drivers for it, but it's the oldest component in the system. Is there a way to tell in the prior dump files if I was printing? I don't remember. Today, I was..."PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES"

I did not get a minidump. It was stuck at "Creating dump file" for about 5 minutes, the red light (hard drive busy) light on but no bytes counted, usually it's instantaneous so I just turned off the machine...I did create the registry value, and, yes, I do remember the 0x00000076 as being the value as on the linked page.

A kerneldump would probably be the best way to go here, preferable about 3 of them or more. Then thouroughly(sp?) check the stack trace and see if any action prior to the drivers crashing is taking place.

Yep - did that, points to video drivers on the stack, but the !analyze -v analysis doesn't authoritatively say, so it's not the best indication.

I haven't had another BSOD since I flashed my motherboard's BIOS to the latest rev. I've also stopped using Logitech's SetPoint drivers. So, one of the two appears to have solved the problem.

When I run it, a DOS box flashes by so quickly I can't read it. I don't find another installed program, and I don't know where there report is going. I found the readme and it says a window will open up with the information, but that's not happening
