8800GTS noise question?

Is it possible to keep an 8800GTS @ 30% fan speed?

After doing some research I found 30-50% is my target, hopefully closer to 30%. This will be used in a slient HTPC/Gaming PC.

My other choice was a 8600GTS/2600XT heatpiped silent card, although not the best for gaming, better at decoding and much better than my current 6800GS.

I would mod it and put a passive heatsink on it, such as the hR-03. Problem, I have a NSK2400 case and that cooler is just way to high for my case, sad...

Any advice on what I can get for a silent PC in a NSK2400? I most play CSS now, but this fall many new games I want to try out!

I don't know about 30% but the noise on the GTS is very acceptable even under heavy gaming situations.

at 60% I can barely hear it, and when you're not gaming it should be able to run at 40% fan speed no problemo. Temperatures didn't go up much when I put it at 35%, at 40% it stabilized at 60c pretty fast which is perfectly acceptable.

When gaming it doesn't matter if it makes some more noise though, if you can call the fan at 60% noisy ...
