Anyways my system is pretty long in the tooth but it does what I need from it ( mostly tf2 and sacred 2)

My system is a x2 4200 (939) 2gig of ddr ram.

Any suggestions for a replacement? I am thinking I wont be upgrading the system for a year so I don't see it as good money after bad (unless more shit starts to break)

How did you kill your card? Is it not covered under warranty?

Well it would be if I ever turned the card in 🙂 4890 for 184 dont see it. How much power does the 4890 need?

The GTX 260 216 deal at NewEgg for $169 was good, if that's still on. The HD4890 is a fast card, but it can get a little loud. Depends how quiet the rest of your system is.

The HD4890 draws about 120 watts at load. Here is a good review showing power draw of various cards:

XBitlabs measures the power draw of the card (not the total system draw) and they are pretty accurate on their values.

Cool thanks for that. I think the 4890 is the card I want with my power supply. I'm sure its going to be asleep at the wheel with the rest of my system though. I think I left sacred 2 running all night a couple of times and this probably broke my card.

I see from your sig that you've got a 20% OC, but that processor just might bottleneck a HD4890. Consider a less expensive card.

😛

A 4890 would probably last you as long as the 8800GTS did. But, your CPU is fairly slow by todays standards. But, for $184 it's really hard to pass up on the 4890.

If you play some of your older games often then get a GTX260 Core 216 or a GTX275 instead. You will not regret it.

I dunno man I think i can get a few more years out of the old girl 🙂 Just shave off the back end of the pci-e and the 4890 will fit just fine.

Ok I bought but i live in CA so I pay tax 🙁 20 bucks cash So I ended up 205ish after I get the rebate back.
