hi. my specs are;

intel core 2 duo E8400
4 GB ram (2x2)
gigabyte GA P35-DS3 motherboard
2x Seagate HDD (500GB and 1TB)
Leadtek TV Tuner winfast tv 2000 xp expert
asus optical drive (DVD RW)
2x Nexus 80mm case fans
Sirtec 500W PSU

and BFG 8800gt 512 OC video card.

now my 8800 broke and I would like to take this as an opportunity to upgrade my graphics. so I thought to get a gtx 560 ti (as beeing the new 8800gt).

my PSU specs are (I write them down as they are, couse I don`t understand a thing in it):

+5 / 25A
+3,3V / 25A

for both 150W

+12V1 / 18A
+12V2 / 18A

for both 432W

-12V / 0,3A / 3,6W

+5VSB / 2,5A / 12,5W

Maximum Load = 500W

Now, I ask:

1. will my PSU be ok with the new configuration (with 560 ti instead of 8800gt)
2. will the new card get inside my case? (the old one has 1.5 cm till it reaches the 3.5 bays)
3. will the new 560 ti work effective in this configuration?
4. for a performant run of present and future games (3 years from now) do I have a cheaper option? what would that be?

thank you!

1, yes
2. if you get the Palit 7.5 inch model to be sure but most 8800gt's were 9 inches.
3. The 8400 is a little slow with quad core optimized games
4. no and you would need a highly clocked quad core cpu to get mabe 2 years out of that system with a gtx560ti.

welcome to the forums.

we need to know what resolution your monitor is.

yes, I knew I forgot something. as of now, I have a philips crt 17 inch monitor and I run games at 1280x1024. but in the very near future I`ll get myself a led 24 inch monitor. I`ll keep the crt till his life ends naturaly for Photoshop editing (very good colors)

in one year I was suposed to make a major upgrade of my system (MB, CPU, GPU, mem) but the broke of my gpu take my by surprise, so I split that major upgrade in 2: GPU now and the rest in a year.

question no.4 was about GPU only, as in one year, as I said, the rest of the system will be upgraded.

at that res you'll probably get through most of the year, but that dual core is going to really start showing it's colors in future and a lot of current games.
