Guys i got 8800 GT and it is running @ 65C in idle times and when i run games like crysis r prostreet it is whooping up to 90C!!!!!.....

is this coz of low power ??....r the card itself is like tht??......

to resolve this is rive tuner enuf r do we need any extra cooler fans??....

The 8800GT's fan is locked at 29%, use RivaTuner to set a fan profile. Works great on my 8800GT overclock. No need for additional cooling unless you're O/Cing IMHO

Exactly what's wrong with the card idling at 65c? GPUs have much higher thermal tolerance than CPUs. Unless you're actually seeing problems, I wouldn't worry about it...

but ive got 8800GT extreme version card(memory clock 1.9Ghz and clock rate 640Mhz)....will riva tuner work well for extreme versions also....??

should be fine up to 120C but not worth finding out if it can survive

I set the shutdown temp in RivaTuner @ 105C, but i doubt it ever gets anywhere near that.

It may be worth noting that the fan of the 8800GT is not locked at 29%. The RPM increases when the GPU approaches 100C, if I remember correctly. I have seen it happen on my own card before I switched to the VF1000. So, Nvidia obviously thought that 90-100C was an acceptable temperature, in which case you probably shouldn't worry about it.

My 2nd BFG 8800GTOC got up to 108C after 15 min. of the ATITool artifact test in my P182 case. This was after removing the stock thermal compound, using a thin layer of Ceramique, and setting the fan in RT to 45%. That kind of extreme heat was also nuking the ambient temp inside of my case. I decided to purchase a Zalman VF1000 and two Thermaltake copper bga heatsink kits for the memory / vrm clusters. When my room temp is 76F (24.4C), the cards idle temp is 48C and full load temps are 68C at 700/1753/1000. Right now it's 71F and idle is 43C.

The Duorb is also another excellent solution.

I set the shutdown temp in RT @ 103 for my 8800 GT SC, thanks for the link to the guide

If you both run the ATITool artifact test for 15 min. what does your gpu temp climb to?

How do you tolerate that amount of noise? Anything over 45% drove me nuts. :p

How can you tell if RivaTuner is working or not? I've set fan to 100% but I don't notice any changes.

Thanks!

If you go to driver settings > customize > system settings > fan tab > change auto control to direct control > raise the sliders to 100%, your fan should ramp up and clearly sound like a small hair dryer.

i would be more worried about running my fans at 100% then the high temps on the cards itself.

Follow the guide to set up Fan profiles, creating Launcher items and configuring Automatic Fan control.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/article/449/

I set mine at initial 45% (~2450RPM, resulting in idle temp of 50-54C), rising to 60% (~3000RPM) at 65C, and 75% (~3600RPM) above 70C. Crysis load temps are ~75C, and the fan noise is acceptable while playing the game.

Setting up the Auto control makes the most sense, as you don't have to worry about turning up the fans etc. - as long as you set the initial 45% to run at startup, and make RiveTuner start with Windows.

I measure the fan speeds and temps with Everest - they are displayed on my Logitech G15 LCD, so I can fully monitor fans/temps while playing games.

I really don't know why everyone is so worried about temps. The GPU is designed to run hot, so why suffer the extra noise from jacking the fan speeds up?

I set 3 profiles 60% 80% and 100%, I have it on 60% and I cannot hear the fan. Once the temp rises and the 80% profile kicks in I can hear the fan.

did you have to use the poweruser launcher for your profiles to launch?

I have mine idling at 40%, hitting 60% at 60C, then 75% at 70C. It hits the third profile after 10 minutes of gaming, but it never stays there. It kicks up to 75% then knocks back down the next profile and switches around. Works fine.

No, just the basic setup as described in the above guide.

Then just hit the "Red" button to enable background monitoring, and make the RivaTuner start with Windows "with the registry key".

I also set the initial startup speed at 45%, and checked "resume monitoring after stand-by", or something to this effect...

Actually, at 65% it just makes a low hum that doesn't bother me. However, if I crank it to 66% it starts making an annoying whining pitch.

Yes this card is loud, at 50% its good but for me above that is to loud, card gets up to 90 after 10 minutes of crysis and its set at 100% above 78 , if i dont cool card framerates drop big time.
