OK, what about $320 + $220 = $550 for 2900xt Crossfire [including Orange Box] . And i won't have to change my MB or my PS :p

- The CPU is far more important according to the Devs and the GT does not convincingly beat the XT in every bench.
.. and i believe you're going to have to change your MB ... loads of fun!

i like ep2 way better than ep1. What i am really looking forward to is Hellgate:London .. i played the beta as a 'tester' and i really like it ... BUT, the devs claim it will not only look better in Dx10 than DX9 but also run significantly better.

I know I'll have to change my MB, but you know... im a bit long way away from SLi or CF.... so whomever has the better card next gen, I'll make the changes accordingly.

Yes I am buying one right when its available (i dont have a video card right now! ahhh). When i buy a bigger monitor, the next generations come out and I will need to go dual card.

so ... let me see if i understand you correctly.

You have a GTS in a CrossFire MB and you are going to sell your GTS before even seeing what AMD has to offer and buy a GT right away knowing that when you SLI your GPU you will also need to change your MB.

--what if the 3800 blows away the GT and eats it for breakfast and spits it out for the same price? Return your GT for restocking or will your MB be sold by then also?

... why? to maximize your dollars? it would be tough for me to wait without a decent videocard.

Yeah my GTS is gone, I kinda dont like that the 8800GT beats the GTS for $50+ less (used) so I am kinda cutting my losses right now before next week. The next time I plan to upgrade will be with my hopefully 30" monitor including new MB and VC or two. I dont plan to go dual card just yet :)

I plan to use the extra $$$ on aftermarket cooling (zalman vf1000) we will see what happens in the next 2 days.

yeah, well, I have a plan, too:

see nice (video card/cpu/mobo), look around for a few days to make sure the deal is ok, buy (video card/cpu/mobo). buy the upper midrange item so that I can convince myself that I was being fiscally responsible. repeat every 3 months.

A 3db difference is a doubling of power, yes, as in twice the input power to achieve 3db more in SPLs...but it's only every 10db of difference that we perceive twice the loudness. So its about 1.8 times louder, which, while not 10 times as loud, is still very damn loud.

Ahh thanks Astralite (and The J) , I knew this didn't seem completely correct but it was late and I figured if I was wrong someone would happily correct me. And yes even a doubling of perceived noise is too much for me.

That's pretty silly.

This is a great card, but I bought my 8800GTX when it came out. I spent $300 more, but I've been enjoying fabulous performance for a year.

I'm more interested in the new 8800 GTS that has all 128 stream processors according to the latest leak. There indeed looks to be a ultra-high end update of 65nm G80 (G92, that is) after all. I'm guessing that NV will launch this one after the 8800 GT buying frenzy. Then everyone will upgrade once more. Smart, aren't they?

not unless AMD produces a competing GPU .. if not, they are just competing with themselves

If Nvidia wants to make money, they would want to make the next GTS and GTX faster than the GT.

Please please please dont buy the 8800GT if you are expecting it to run Crysis because you will be very disapointed, Crysis is far too demanding for any setup out there unless you want to tone it down and play at 1024 with medium settings and no AA or AF that is. :(

Buy this card because its a beast and happily play all the other new games that have just been released or are being released in the near future.

Crytek have dropped a clanger.

they are cheap enough - buy two :p
... that'll make most gamers happy to play Crysis nearly maxed out when nvidia gets SLI working for it
