I have a XFX 8800GT 512MB Alpha Dog edition in my computer.

I boot up without the GPU powered, dead silence. Benefit of two 120mm case fans, one 120mm CPU HSF, and one power supply with a 120mm fan.

I boot up with GPU powered. BAM Freaking hurricane.

I have tried using Rivatuner 2.09 as well as the current version of Ntune (5.0.58.0 i think)

Please help me out with any knowledge you have!

I have placed my finger over the fan center slowly, bringing the fan to a more acceptable level, while monitoring GPU temps... and it works great. I just need a program to do it for me!

Try again, rivatuner works just fine.

That is unfortunate that it is not controllable, I have read the same answer now from many people. I am going to look into GPU modding, if I fail at that then I will have to look at aftermarket GPU cooling fans. IF I fail at THAT, I gotta get me a new GFX card. Brain don't fail me now.

I have the original Alpha Dog model (before they re-released it with a slightly larger, quieter fan setup) and it's completely controllable in RivaTuner.

If yours is controllable in Rivatuner, can you tell me:

1. Nvidia Driver version
2. Rivatuner version
3. What settings you use to modify the speed

That would help me a lot I don't want to have to fiddle with it or install a new cooler, although the DuOrb looks nice.

I tried to use the low level system settings and the system setings in rivatuner, maybe I was doing it wrong, is a reboot required after each change?

This happened to me as well. There was a production error with many of the XFX 8800gts where they accidentally used a non-controllable fan. Open up a helpdesk petition at xfxforce.com - you DID remember to register your card, right?

I did not register my card, just yesterday I went to the XFX site for the first time

I opened a help ticket but I haven't registered the product I bought.

I will do that when I can, did they send you a new card Jschmuck2?

I would hope I do not have to send them my card first, then I would have a waiting period of non use... which is usually weeks with how customer service companies operate

Actually, they sent me a new fan. I looked at your profile and got excited that you were in Ontario. Sadly, it's Ontario Canada and not Ontario California. Heh, they got me my new HSF in one day. Great service there. If you're comfortable with putting on the new fan yourself (super easy - take off, put on) they'll send you out a fan.

Your fan probably only has two wires and can't be controlled. The 3rd wire on a 3 wire fan feeds back spped and allows voltage adjustment to reach desired speed. I understand a lot of XFX cards are equipped with 2 wire fans.
