8800gt aftermarket cooling

Hi guys, I was wondering what you think is the best way (other than water) to cool 2 8800GTs in SLI?

I was thinking of getting the Accelero S1s + fans, but I'm not sure if the cooler+ fan combo will fit on my bottom card (with a p5n-32e sli).

thanks in advance

p.s. 1st post 😀

I would just update the video BIOS to speed up the fans, and leave the heatsinks alone.

Let the manufacurers take the responsibility for their Lifetime Warranties.

And welcome to AnandTech!

thanks a lot guys, the main reason i'm looking at fans is because ever since i put in my 2nd card, i've been getting slowdowns in games after about an hour or so of play. The first thing i did was turn up the fan speed in rivatuner, which didn't help.

I'll try updating the bios first, but if that doesn't work I'll probably put some kind of aftermarket cooling on (plus they're g92 cards, so i HAVE to try overclocking them 🙂.

Awesome, that article is just what i needed, especially since I found out the accelero would take up too many slots w/ the fans on it. I think I'll go with the thermaltakes since they only take up 1 extra slot.

Hello, just know that I know it all. 🙂

I'll try to remember 😛

heh, I rarely read forums, usually just the site's reviews/dailytech and whatnot. I honestly don't recall making this account, i found out today when I tried making one and it told me I had already registered an account.

I never posted last xmas though, I probably had some question on a computer-related gift I was giving/receiving but figured out the answer. Funny that i finally post a year later...

For the top card i'd use the Thermalright HR-03 GT so you can mount it so the cooler is "on top" of the card instead of in between them, because im not sure the s1 with fans will fit between two sli'ed cards. (you can mount the HR-03 either way on the card)

Then use an s1 or whatever you have room for on the bottom card.

I know when i tried two 8800GT cards in sli, it got very warm between the two cards and the "upper most" card got so hot, i never even finished a 4 loop run of Crysis, i aborted the benchmark and decided that if i was ever gonna sli two 8800GT cards, i was gonna need aftermarket coolers. (preferrably ones that exhausted the air out of the case)

Strangely enough, third party aftermarket dual slot coolers that exhaust the hot air out of your case designed for the 8800GT cards still seem to be absent.
But if you can find one, thats what i would use.

The Accelero S1 does exhaust out of your case if you have front intake fans. The Accelero comes with a bracket with vents / perforations. The bracket goes into the spot blocked by the Accelero. It's like the part of the bracket in the 8800GTS / GTX / Ultra that blocks the second slot.
