Prices are dropping left and right and with rebates it is making upgrading video cards fun. I think it is about time to swap my Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB out and getting either (1) 8800GT 512 or (2) 9600GTs

9600GTs are hovering around $100-125 mark and 8800GTs are around $130-180.
Originally I was going to just go ahead and get the eVGA superclock 8800GT 512MB card but now I am humoring the idea of actually using the SLI in my mobo and getting (2) 9600GTs if I catch them around the low $100 mark.

If I read right (2) 9600GTs are better than (1) 8800GT 512MB in situations where the resolution is 1920x1280, the native res of my 2405FPW.

So I am wondering if my decision towards getting (2) 9600GTs is the better purchase. I am just curious because I never really bought into the SLI idea hype but it seems that this may prove me wrong, two cheaper cards besting one better card.

Any help is appreciated, also I am sure others are thinking the same thing I am at this crazy price point period in the video card market.

I would get 1 9600GT , wait for G200/HD4870 to come out (more price war), then buy another 9600GT at ~$50. . :D

Seconded.

Or just keep what you have now and wait...like me (I need company in this camp :p).

I like my SLi 8800GT's but for today, in the price point you're wanting to hit I'd just get a single 9600 for now and either pick up a second on the next price drop. Depending on your patience threshold (or lack thereof) you could just wait and save for the new cards to hit.
