8800gs to 4850 worth the upgrade?

Currently I have an e5200 oced to 3.4 and just bought the HannsG 27.5" monster monitor. I'm able to run most games fine with my 8800gs 384 meg overclocked @ 1920x1200 resolution with no AA except for Crysis and Farcry2 (why does there have to be the word "cry" in both of these games!).

Is it worth it to upgrade to a 4850 for 90 bucks as noted on newegg. I figure I could sell the 8800gs for around 35-40 bucks. I'm kind of waiting for the next generation if possible. Otherwise should I wait till the 260/4870 comes down in price and go with more ram.

Other games to play Bioshock, COD4, Fallout3, etc..

Thanks for suggestions.

I went from a overclocked 8800gs to a overclocked 8800gts. I saw small improvements. I would wait if I were you. Go for a 4870 instead. Maybe 512mb one on the cheap.

It's not faster- look at ATs 4770 review- 4850 tops charts in all but 2 games. OP: 1x4850 may be a good choice and you could always overclock it, otherwise get a 4870 or wait for a price drop on them.

That's a decent deal but the fan is loud always @ 12volts. You might have to buy a fan controller or a hack for 5-7volts.

I saw some open boxed 4870 @ newegg for $135 which would be better than GTS250. You might want to try your luck at for sale forum and get a used GTX 260 or 4870 for cheap.

Corrected. The OP's 1900x1200 resolution calls for a 1gb card. Thats why I suggested it.

Edit in these reviews the gts 250 comes out even or on top? It never loses?

I'd pick up a 4870 512mb if I were you. For some reason they're priced kinda high right now, but I've seen them on sale as low as $135AR. I went from an 8800GT->4870 512mb and saw improvements, so I'm sure it'd be pretty noticeable for you.

Heres the deal of a lifetime! 1gb 4870 for 145$ after rebate with free shipping.

Best bang for your buck there!

I hate these rebate deals. You still have to cough up more money and if you are lucky you get your rebate. I've had bad experience with MSI rebates. Never EVGA though.
