8800 GTX problems

I bought an eVGA 8800 GTX (reference design) through Newegg and when it got here I popped it in, installed the drivers fine, but it caused some hardware issues for me.

Here are the problems I ran into -

On shutdown, the mobo (I think it was the mobo) would squeal, every time I shut down. Then the computer wouldn't power back up unless I pressed the power button twice.

Anybody else run into similar symptoms?

My config is:

Core2 - 6600
2 gigs Corsair
P5W-DH mobo
2 Seagage 320 SATA

Any "squeal" would indicate a power problem, like a bad capacitor somewhere, or the PSU has too much draw on it at certain times. Try to pinpoint where the squeal is coming from.

The BIOS version - not sure right away - haven't paid attention at post, but the board itself has been flawless (love it - and the 6600).

Power problem eh.... Humm, that makes sense to me, not coming from the PSU. I have a PC Power&Cooling Silencer 750, which has 60 amps on the 12 volt. I traded up from an X1950XTX which has similar power requirements and had NO such issue at all.

Well, that confirms what I was suspecting - this card is shipping back.

This is correct. Though in the vast majority of occasions this is nothing to worry about..
Mine does it occasionally too.. (Only the whining sound.. )

Yea, I get the occasional whining sound from my 7900GT's (probably from the vmod) but they have been rock solid (and fast) and ever since I took away the memory vmod, it does it VERY RARELY.

Now, I'm not saying that it's not normal (cause it is sometimes) but it might be something you should look into just a little deeper just to make sure it's not a major problem.

Can you clearly identify were the sound is coming from???
(like video card or mobo? Me thinks video card since you just got these problems installing the 8800GTX)

Besides that, as long as it doesn't make the noise a lot then I guess your ok.
It's an EVGA so you got a lifetime warranty with it, so you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.
I guess you can RMA it if anything really goes wrong.

It's probably the psu.. When a psu carries too much load (even in safe limits) sometimes produces this whining sound..
You should experience this only when you close your psu ..
OP I'm not sure though, about you having to press the power button twice to post (not having this issue on the same mobo).. Have you tried to reset your bios?

Also what psu do you have?
