8800 GTX idle GPU temperature high?

For all the 8800 GTX owners out there, what temperature does your 8800 GTX GPU idle at when at stock speeds of 575/900 MHz with the stock HSF? And what is the fan RPMs?

According to the nTune tool my GPU idles at 75C with a fan speed of 224 RPM. I suppose that is the normal idling temperature...

It does seem a bit high, but the I read online that the idling temperature is high like that anyways. Any thoughts?

The way the drivers control fan speeds at default on the 8800 GTX is retarded.

Mine would idle higher than what you mention (though the hot ambient temps in my apt don't help).

You can use Rivatuner to set it to use 100% fan speed, which will bring idle temps down a bit, but also brings noise up a little.

I did notice that the fan RPM reading from the nTune was quite low, so I wasn't too surprised that the GPU temperature would be so high.
Btw, what was your idle temperature before you manually set the fan to maximum speed?

@adairusmc
Lol, I forgot to mention using a stock HSF cooling solution :p
(I edited my first post now :D)

My 8800 Ultra is currently idling at 58C with default fan settings.

I get 60-65c in the summer and 55-60c in the winter for each card. I have 2 of them though, so its like a sandwich of heat. With a single card, I wouldn't expect more than 55c idle.

The cooler must be a little better than what the stock GTX offers...
What's your room temp?

To people who replied, I was wondering if you can provide the fan RPMs as well. :)
I'm assuming that the room temperature is something normal like around 23C :p

8800GTS I have at 650mhz core, idles at ~37C. Can't beat water cooling ;)
I assume a GTX might idle at a slightly higher temperature.

(not really helping am I :p)

The Thermalright HR-03 plus does a good job. :D

What clockspeeds are you getting from that?

I have open case and additional fan on mine and I get temps of ~50c to 67/68c idle/load

Typically right around 65c. Surprisingly when it spins up for a game it doesnt climb much at all.

It is just at stock speeds right now.

With RivaTuner keeping my fan at 100%, the side of my case taken off and a 12" floor fan blowing in on low and my 8800GTS STILL runs at 60-61degrees.....I was under the impression these ran cool, did I get a bad card?

I don't think you got a bad card. Before I got the HR03 mine idled at about the same temps with the stock fan at 100%.

That's just crazy, that can't be good for the card. Alot of the reviews I have read say 60idle 80load.....80!?!?!?!

LOL.

My 8800 GTX is idling @ 80C right now.

Thanx for your retarded default fan settings nVidia

Granted, my very cozy (& by cozy, i mean fucking hot) apartment doesn't help, but still...

Yeah well considering these are rated for OVER 120C before they will shut down to protect themselves (meaning this is not even the failure temp), 80C load is pretty sweet. That's 40C of headroom. Not too shabby.

They are not like hand-designed CPUs. They are designed to run hot.

If you go to the trouble to slap a better cooler, you should really take advantage of the extra headroom that allows.

Bah, my topmost 8800 GTX routinely "idles" at 71c. My bottom one idles in the low 60s. Gaming gets the top one up to the high 70s and the bottom one into the low 70s.

I've got a the Lian Li G70 case with the built in fan for exhausting hot air from the gfx cards and the machine literally feels like a space heater. I'm also using Riva to run my fans at 85% during normal use and 100% when gaming.

I put "idle" in quotes because the Windows Vista Aero interface runs in 3d mode all the time so it's never truly idle. Even more so if you're running Dreamscape like I am.

I notice that the temps read lower in Nvidia Monitor when I run in XP, even right after running in Vista. I wonder which one is correct?

Edit Forgot to mention that I'm running at stock speeds until they get the Vista driver errors sorted out.

Have two in SLi, #1 idles at 58C and #2 idles at around 51C. Both are set to 100% fan speed with RivaTuner, which is about 2800 RPM (and not very loud either, I can't really hear it). Load temps at about 64-65 for #1 and never pay much attention to #2 since it never goes past 60C.

Did a quick "idling" test (idling as in Vista Aero).

My room ambient temperature is a balmy 27 C.
I turned up the GPU fan to 100 % through the Nvidia control panel and I'm sitting in Vista Aero "idling". According to NVMonitor my GPU is running at 63 C.

The case I'm using is the standard Thermaltake Aguila with two 120 mm fans (one intake and one venting) and a small 90ish mm side blow-hole so airflow shouldn't be too bad inside...

On toasty days my 8800GTX (and this is after being cleaned and having the heatsink reseated with better thermal paste) can idle at 70c, most days its about 62-67c and I'm not going to be bothered with it as even in Oblivion it never gets much past 78c. My fan is jacked up to 100% as auto settings are happy to let the GPU hit +80c without revving.
