8800 GTS overclocking question

What has been your guys experience with the evga 8800 GTS 640mb? Should I go with the lowest clocked version and try and bump it up myself? The base card is at 500MHz and the top card is at 580MHz. Would I ever notice a difference?

My "low-end" 320mb eVGA 8800GTS ($260 after rebate) can hit at least 650/1000 pretty easily. I would test higher, but the temps are making me afraid (I once hit 93 degrees C on the "GPU diode" at load :shocked🙂.

Aflac, 120C is a serious temperature for GPUs (though yeah 93 is high), if your OC is stable there is not much reason to think your card is overheating. Too much paranoia about temps these days...

Its core is 600 MHZ rather than 580.

I've seen several people with problems after having overclocked their videocards. I don't do it myself, especially since when I did try, I didn't notice any improvement in games.
