8800 GT overclocking

I would like to know if this is the card to get versus buying a 8800 gts 320 and overclocking it to try to reach framerates similar to that of a stock 8800gtx. I plan on ocing either the gts 320 or the 8800 gt, and i will use it for crysis mainly.

I am upset with my 1950xt's performance on crysis.

I can find the 8800gt for $233 and the 8800gts for $241

I am getting 1000 higher 3DMarks in 06 with the OC'd 8800GT over the OC'd GTS 320 Fatal1ty card. I wouldn't buy the 320 especially if you plan on playing Crysis. I played the demo and the intro was at 15fps and now it stays above 30. Part of it is because there isn't enough memory. You shouldn't get less than 512MB on a video card if you game with it. Even Bioshock with 4aa @ 1280 runs out of memory and slows down significantly.

Oh sh11!!! you serious?

I only got 8300 on my system -- 4400+, 2GB DDR400 CL2 RAM with the stock 8800GTS Fatal1ty.

Sounds like on my system I should be able to hit 9000 3DMarks.

Hey Shaq, do you have the stock or OCed 8800GT?

I am in the middle of OCing it now and testing. I'm at 710/1782/2000 on a reference XFX so it's slightly OC'd. LOL I had the Fatal1ty at 675/1672/2088 and this is 1000 faster. (14300) Stock Fatal1ty to a reference GT would probably only give you 200-300 points higher.

I hope you got a higher clocked one or plan on doing it yourself. I just sent the Fatal1ty off today. Have you sent it back yet?

well i do plan on OC'ing the card i buy the one i saw for $230 was an msi brand. probably wont get much outa that. but slightly more than stock should be okay.

What program works for the shaders that you're using?

I sent the Fatal1ty back, hopefully they don't find an excuse to hit me with 15% restocking fee =P

I picked up the MSI 8800GT OC from Clubit at $266 shipped (damn California tax) and it's at 660 core/1900 mem/1650 shaders.

Thing I noticed from most reviews, the 8800GT is already a great performer from a core/shader standpoint. The greatest imcrease seems to be memory overclocking (as far as I can see) which should be obvious, the difference between the 8800GT stock and the 8800GTS Fatal1ty is 40% memory bandwidth. (in favor of the GTS).

One review said that the shaders had the biggest impact. I'm not sure which of the 20 it was though. lol Rivatuner 2.06 beta is doing it fine. I can see it change in the hardware monitor. I know it's going higher because I get more artifacts in ATItool the higher I set it. 169.04 drivers.

On the return sheet it said a 15%restock fee, but the site said 30 day guarantee no questions asked. I thought that meant no fee. If they try to charge it I will complain..we'll see what happens.

It looks like I am stable at 702/1786/2000. 710 core crashed in Crysis after 1 1/2 hours.

Does it show as an extra bar where the core and mem are that you can adjust and if so did you have to do anything special like go into the power users settings like some sites said?
