So let me ask you guys this. Why on earth would a 865PE board work better than a 875P board in certain instances? Let me set it up for you guys.

I play a few different types of games. Flight Sims, RTS, Sports and Puzzle...I've got a decent Rig:

3.0 P4 (800, 512)
9700 Pro
Gigabyte 81K1100 (875p) board
1 gig Geil Ultra 3200

I can play most games at a decent res 1280x1024 usually with details all the way up. Pretty good for what I need. There are exceptions though. EA Sports games, most recently MVP Baseball, Tiger Woods 2004 and NHL 2005. I cannot get them to run smoothly AT ALL. It doesn't matter what resolution I'm on or the detail level. I could be on 800x600 with details all the way down and it'll play the same as 1600x1200 full detail. It's really weird because it's only those types of games. So anyway, after messing around with every possible graphic fix, I decided I'd try to swap out my motherboard and get one that uses a little older, more established chipset. I went with the MSI 865PE Neo2 Platinum.

Now, I can play all of those EA Games at their highest res 1600x1200 with detail all the way up, FLAWLESSLY. WTF? I just don't get it. Was there some type of bus or memory issue with my old Gigabyte board that would prevent it from rendering a certain type of graphics correctly? I have read everywhere that the 875P boards increased performace...not in my case. I just don't understand what the deal is. If anyone has any idea as to why this would happen, please chime in. I really would like to know what the deal is so I can add it to my own personal FAQ. Thanks.

It seems like for 875 boards people like Abit or Asus and dont really care about Gigabyte. Have you ever used any of those boards. Are you Overclocking?

I gave the Abit IC7G Max a try and one of the memory slots was bad resulting in me not being able to run dual channel memory. I returned it and they didn't have any more. I just took my money back at that time. I can't say that the Gigabyte was a good board, but it worked well enough in 'other' games so it was acceptable. Now that I've got it all squared away, I've got no complaints with the 865PE board.

Did you do a clean re-install when you did the board swap? Did you try doing a clean re-install with the original board to compare? There might just have been something screwy with your Windows' install before. Could have been an issue with mobo BIOS, memory timings, or more likely IRQ routings too.
