I was considering an Abit IC7 motherboard (great price for a nice board!) but now that the Springdale boards are starting to appear I'm thinking about purchasing one of them instead. I don't *need* any of the features that Canterwood offers over Springdale (though the PAT would be nice). I'm simply looking for a SOLID board with a good feature set for a good price to go with a new 2.4c (or 2.6c) processor. Which Springdale boards should I start looking at? Reviews should start appearing in the coming weeks, but I know some of the boards have been available for a while and some of you may have some experience with them.

From the comparison chart on Abit's website it looks like the IS7 is just like the IC7 except the IS7 has built in 10/100 LAN and, since it's the 865, no PAT. Are there other major differences? Let us know how you like it!

Is this available yet to the common people?

EDIT: I just bought the Asus P4P800, for me it seemed the best of the early bunch.

I believe the Asus P4P800 Deluxe uses the ICH5R.

Is anyone using this board yet, or have links to reviews? I'm thinking of getting this instead of the IC7-G which was my original choice... any comments?

im in the same boat . . . seems like the 865pe might be a good deal, but i have a feeling i will regreat not having PAT at a later date. Im personally thinking that i might just get the abit IC7 and throw in a nic, as i dont really need gigabit lan at the moment. plus its only 145 at newegg right now . . .

My IS7 should be here today. And alot of people recieving them are saying that they are actually getting the 3Com gigabyte lan chip on the board even though it states a 10/100 in the book. I hope mine has the 3Com chip. It's not as good as the CSA gigabyte but better than the 10/100.

I just put together some info on this topic last night. This is not all the 865PE boards out there, but the subset that fit my requirements. It should at least provide a starting point...

Manuf. Model IDE Ports IDE RAID SATA SATA RAID USB 1394 PCI AGP NIC CSA Sound
Intel D865PERLL 2 NO 2 NO 4+ 2 5 1 10/100 NO AD1895
Intel D865PERLK 2 NO 2 YES 4+ 2 5 1 1000 YES AD1895
Abit IS7 2 NO 2 YES 4+ 3 5 1 10/100 NO ALC650
Abit IS7-G 2 NO 4 YES 4+ 3 5 1 1000 NO ALC650
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe 4 YES 2 YES 4+ 2 5 1 1000 NO AD1895
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000Pro 2 NO 2 NO 4+ 2 5 1 10/100 NO ALC650
Gigabyte GA-8PENXP 4 YES 4 YES 4+ 3 5 1 1000 YES ALC655

-- Sorry, I've tried to format this, but no luck. Anyone know how to do fixed width in here? --

The USB/1394 are minimums. Most of the boards here support 6 or 8 USB ports.

I did not include all boards within a manufacturer, and I obviously left out a few manufacturers (I'm picky). Gigabyte has about 4-5 more boards with *slight* variations (Sometimes as small as the 10/100 controller onboard). I found that several companies (including Gigabyte) have still not "activated" (linked) their motherboard info pages yet. They're on the site, you just have to hunt/search for them.

Important to note! Not all boards that advertise Gigabit LAN use the Intel Chipset. Without the Intel Chipset, the board will not gain the benefit from the CSA link (note: ASUS!). That's why the YES/NO column for CSA.

Hope you find this of value,

The Pacifyer

I like the looks of the Albatron board.. if I went with a P4 board right now I think I'd get that one.

Careful. The early version of this board limits FSB to 250 MHz.

There are BIOSes available on Albatron's web site that allow up to 333MHz FSB, so that doesn't matter. :)

The Intel D865PERLK does..

It comes with the IC5HR, CSA GIGABIT LAN, SoundMax 4 XL sound chip, and Firewire

The Albatron Pro II has it and it has ATA RAID as well! The regular Pro version does not.

Pacifyer - thanks for the list! The Abit IS7 sure looks like a good pick for the money ($109 at googlegear). I also like the features of the Asus P4P800 Deluxe.. hmm... choices... I'll wait for more conflicting reviews so I can be even more confused.

The Albatron PX865PE Pro II looks to be the best Springdale board available, does 1200FSB OC, has the VIA Envy24PT sound chip, and Raid southbridge, even CSA Gigabit LAN.

Has anyone seen the P4P800 non-deluxe anywhere (hopefully somewhere reliable)? The deluxe model is a little more than I'm looking to spend on a mobo right now.

My P4PE-Deluxe arrives tomorrow. Can't hardly wait. Quick question. I'll be at work tomorrow. Will UPS leave this or not (I'm in a pretty safe neighborhood) if I leave an authorization signature on my door? The local office is closed on the weekend, so no pick up. I hate UPS, I wish GG would use someone else.

Putting together a new system, and I think I'll be getting the Asus P4P800 (non-deluxe). If you want a solid board, can't go wrong with Asus.

i just saw a review that showed the performance of the asus p4p800 springdale to be on par with the canterwood version and better in some marks. the springdale asus delux has the ich5R and firewire, and alot cheaper.. im definetly going to re-think my canterwood purchase. after all the canterwood was billed as a server/workstation board and the springdale ;the desktop end user board.

What are the main differences between the P4P800 Deluxe and the regular version? It does look like a nice board!

The P4P800 has SATA and RAID via the ICH5 southbridge. The Deluxe also has a second Promise (or Via?) ATA-133 and SATA IDE RAID controller, for 4 more drives in a secondary RAID array. The Deluxe also has Firewire, which the regular does not. Both have 3Com Gigabit LAN, but neither utilizes it through CSA. Otherwise they really ought to be the same. I think the Deluxe comes with Asus' BIOS alarm system, and the regular doesn't, but who cares about that?

I ordered my P4P800 from Essencompu on Wednesday and got it today! I'm stoked.
