Hmm... so were things that much different since you joined? (2001), cause its always been the same. By "same" I mean that its always changing, and that in itself is the norm. Monkeys come, monkeys go. The place keep changing, for good or worse, it depends on the person.

The current administration wants an AOL chatroom environment. You can't fight city hall or the horde of mindless masses of which numerous examples have posted in this thread.

Back out. Have a nice "chat".

In essence you are complaining about what is, the state we find people in who post on Anadtech OT. You want them to grow up. You are saying they don't satisfy a need you have. You define it as a desire for more intellignece. If I've got this right then let us look at some possible answers:

In the first place there is no point in complaining about what is. What is, is. That's the remarkable thing about what is. It's one thing to critique what is, to analyze it, to try to understand it, but to complain about it is to imply a failure in your personal understanding. Complaining changes nothing. It is an emotional response, and if I may say so, not a very intelligent one, as I hope you can now glimpse.

The problem, of course is, that if people are immature, young, unsophisticated, undeveloped, shallow, or stupid and unintelligent as you wish to claim, telling them that will not change them. How much maturity will you find in a nursery of gifted kids. Not much. So we aren't talking about intelligence here, but more like what I described in the first part of the sentence. Well you can't put an old head on young sholders, as they say and have been saying probably for thousands of years. You can't squeeze blood from a turnip. You don't build castles on sand.

So we come to the question of why you complain. I described it as having a need that isn't being met. You want something you aren't getting. What could that be, intelligent mature and sophisticated conversation? Why do you need this. What we need is air, food, shelter, water, etc. So you want it, actually. What is that want? What lack are you experiencing that tells you you need to fill it? Normally people don't look at themselves, ask themselves why the feel what they feel. Maybe they lack the maturity to do so. But they don't. And because we are being serious for a minute, trying to look into things with some intelligence, can we conclude that what we want is based on feelings we don't normally understand. Well if so, how are we going to understand what we don't understand. You can't put an insightful head on naive sholders. Anybody who knows will be speaking an incomprehensible language, will be able, essentially, to see in the dark. :D It could be that what lies there in the dark, or more exactly why it is dark there is because what we could see isn't flattering.

Suppose, just for a moment that what we want is to satisfy our egos, our idealized self images. I think of myself as an intelligent and sophisitcated person, at least I would like to, but I'm surrounded by morons. :D I long to have my desired self image fulfilled. I feel a pain that it is not. I complain. But is my ego desire arises from illusion, if my ego is an artificial construct designed to cover up a need I feel isn't being met and that need is itself the illusion then I become like a vacuum sucking vacuum. What if I'm upside down. What if I'm really an endless cornucopia, a limitless resource of that good old loving feeling. What if I'm mana from heaven.

Well in tha case what I might want to do is to 'shine on you crazy diamond'. In a case like that there might not be much else to do but give, to live, to exemplify something in the hope that somebody somewhere catches the disease.

:D

Isla, how I love Whinnie.

Moonbeam, you never cease to amaze me with your mindless banter..."What is, is." That is a great sentence, really. Complaining is always an unintelligent response? If you want to look at an unintelligent response, try re-reading your post...no, wait..you've already done that 4 or 5 times because you are the kind of person who couldn't stand to have a spelling or grammatical error pointed out by someone other than yourself, that might imply you aren't the supreme mind here. Your name isn't John Nash, and none of us are taking any class that you are teaching, so please get off of your high-horse and save it for someone who cares. XZeroII may not have stated it as eloquently as you might, and he may have started his thread off on the wrong foot by calling people idiots, but the overall point that there are a ton of really, really grade-level questions and posts here is valid. (and yes, the part about the PS2 port is very ironic). I am not going to call out any threads in particular, you can figure out for yourself what you do or do not want to read.

Leaving Moonbeam alone now, my two cents would be this: If ATOT is anything for you, whomever you are, other than a resource or occasional stopping point, then you need to get a life. I stop here to see if anything interesting has been released, software-wise, or if there is any breaking news before I go to sleep, or to find the answers to questions about a wide variety of topics, and a few other misc things. Even Chat rooms, as pathetic as they can be, are a more meaningful place of interaction with other people than a forum like this is. I think people get too hung up with their forum "persona", and we have a lot of people who talk/act smarter/stronger/prettier than they really are. Amusing on occasion, but lets not get too full of ourselves.

That being said, if the guy who screwed the hot bartender who also happens to play CS is telling the truth, I am Batman...and I don't think a Saturn LS is any type of BatMobile!

Hehe, let NeoV be a lesson to you all. He claims I have impeccable grammar and perfect spelling because I proof my stuff 4 or 5 times. Live long enough and you get criticized for everything. For your information, Neo, I am rather famous for my peculiar grammar and my poor spelling, famous in the sense that I have been raked over the coals for it about a bejillion times. Nothing has changed in my grammar, of course, but my spelling has improved emmensly because I have a handy dandy forum spell checker that fixes everything for me, but which I still don't always use. I thought it would be fun to see if anybody noticed. If I were worried about being criticized I could have gone to the trouble of cutting and pasting out of Word long ago.

Anyway what you are really doing bears no relationship to my reality is that you are projecting your own fear of being ridiculed on to me and of course, what you wind up doing is ridiculing me. :D All that supreme mind stuff is just your own feelings of being stupid talking. You just need some self confidence. Quit worring what other people are going to think of you. It's the mind killer and part of the reason so many people are afraid to be serious. There's always somebody like you taking pot shots from behind their inferiority shield trying to bring people down. It's what is. And who the hell is John Nash? :D

And don't forget, the more empty of self you become, the more full of yourself you will be accused of being. It's why we like our thousand pounds of cabbage.

edit: Forgot to mention, I fixed two misspellings.

Dude, no offense or anything but....

Pot. Kettle. Black.

I mean, seriously. I admit my posts aren't quite intellectual grade-a material. But i...well...try not to bitch about other people's crap. You don't have to come here...

And I do enjoy moonbeam's posts.

Yes, I believe the IQ level here has dropped, and you are part of the reason. A ps2 connector is the connector to a mouse and a modern keyboard. A "ps2 connector" is NOT a playstation 2. My question had absolutely nothing to do with gaming.

Yeah, i was a bit surprised by his suggestion too since you rarely hear people talk about MB's on playstation 2's...

Moonboy, if you had any clue, or sense of humor, for that matter, you would have realized that my implicating you as a spell checker was, in fact, very funny given your propensity to make spelling errors....Try Google for John Nash, you might actually learn something instead of pretending to understand what motivates everyone on this board to do or say...oh, and you might want to get outside a bit more, maybe interact with real people, who can actually talk and move without having a "/me smiles at you" in front of a stupid little emotion icon.
