Hey guys, as a new comer, so sorry to disturb you with a low level question!

Just about the mail from newegg, it shows they combo 8600GT with 2Gb Memory, It seems saving a lots, but I do not know if the video card is good enough and so if it's worth to buy this combo.

Could you please kindly give me a hand, how about the cards in combo ? I am not a gamer now, but I do not want to take a card which weaks in its 3D.

you can check this deal here, http://promotions.newegg.com/VGA/113007/index.html, thank you !

The whole 8600 series line is just one big pile of epic fail. Get an ATI 3850 much better.

I just worried about the driver of the ATI, or AMD now? I choose my previous card as Nvidia finally, just because the ATI crash my pc and conflict with my motherboard.

But, really thanks for your advice!

Is your motherboard based on an VIA chipset? (IIRC that was the least chipset I knew of that caused problems with ATI cards.)

It really depends on how much performance you want overall, if your not much of a gamer (Eg. You play a game every now and then) you probably could get a 8600 series card but depending on the game you feel like playing it might not be worth it considering most previous gen cards (7900 GT, X1950, Etc.) will over power them.

If you want your card to last a few more years and you use vista you would be better off with a 3850.

RAM is SO cheap nowadays...I got my OCZ Gold RAM for $20 (2 2 x 1GB packs) each ($40 total for 4GB) after rebate...most good RAM deals are after rebates, anyways...I wouldn't spend extra money on an 8600 unless you really needed it just to get a slightly better deal on RAM.

Save up for an 8800GT, I say. Or at the very least, a 3850. Anything but an 8600.

That just makes me sad because I spent $100 after rebates on my 4 X 1GB of Newegg Lanfest Crucial RAM (that I still haven't used due to lacking parts still). :(

I spent $175 on my 4x1gb memory in September. Used, they were, too.

its not too bad a deal, i wouldnt call it flaming hot or anything either.

this effectively makes the 8600gt a $80 or so card, which is not bad. to the guys replying with 3850... the 3850 costs $170-180. thats uh completely different.

im sure if this were an auto forum and someone asked about buying a civic, you'd be screaming civic suck, bmws blow them away.

yes we would, and it will be the truth...

I doubt he is really unable to AFFORD a 3850 / 8800GT 256MB, and he would probably regret not getting one when he sees the performance he has...

Also, HALF the high quality 2x1gb packages on new egg are 20$ after 30 or 40$ mail in rebate... So I would grab two packs of those ( from different manufacturers, because there is a limit of one per item per household per person... so you would only get one rebate if you bought two identical packs)

he even said he wasnt really a gamer.

i dont think its really responsible to recommend to people to spend another $100 if its completely not the right recommendation. i mean seriously its over twice as much for a 3850.

The 8600 isn't bad considering the price. I'm thinking of getting one myself. Your only going to be able to play Crysis at medium settings with it but anything else will run well.

But if your mobo supports 1.1 pcie and you have a 30amp psu then 3850 256mb is much better option as it will run crysis at playable frame rate on medium setting :!

It's definately the better card but it also costs more. Unless he is a serious gamer and he claims not to be I think the 8600 is the better option.
