Currently still have a 7900gs, the price points of these other cards look very sweet. how serious of a performance game could I get? Games I currently play that could use some more of a power boost.

The Witcher
ARMA
BioShock

Rough call. AFAIK the 8600gt does a little better in newer games due to it's shaderpower, but I very much doubt you'll see a big boost going from a 7900gs to a 8600gt, which is a pretty crappy card alltogether. Rather spend a few extra bucks, and buy a 8800gs or a HD3850 if you're really on a tight budget.

This is an useless upgrade. Better spend more for a card like those listed by MarcVenice since you wont see any improvement crossing from 7900 GS to 8600 GT. If I'm not mistaken 9500 GT is crappier then those other two, by quite a long margin.

If you can wait and save some cash up and get a better card like an HD4850 or 9800GTX+ then you'll have a solid system again. I'd save up a bit more...don't buy that pizza next weekend etc :D

I agree w/ the 4850, that card is EXCELLENT. I am going to upgrade this winter (black friday deal ideally)

I'm sure cards will change at that time but it always helps to get a good understanding of the current market no matter when you plan on buying

The 4850 is a very nice card but cheaper solutions like the 9600gt for a bit under $100 or the 8800gt for slightly over $100 are very good deals for their price. You won't have to wait and they are both much better cards than your 7900gs. If you do go for the 4850 make sure your PSU can handle it as it's a bit of a beast in that area. If that ends up being an issue the 9600gt uses almost half the power.
