Bling: You do realize that these cards do not only run DX10 games, yes?
There are all the other average reasons to go for one.

The launch date for these cards is about the same as for when ATI will launch R600, that is, around CeBIT at the second week of March.

So when ATI finally launches their high end cards, cards they are trying to sell to people which already bought their 8800's and are just fine at any resolution, any game - Nvidia will get the mid-range buyers before ATI can respond in kind once again.

I bet hector is wondering why the hell he bought ATI about now.

I think you pretty much nailed it there. It's like ATI just can't nail down what they are supposed to do and when.

That 8600 Ultra looks very nice. Perhaps I see a new video card in my near future :)

I'm staying with my 7900GS for now, unless it breaks down of course :p I'll hopefully be able to get a couple of years out of it if i'm lucky.

That Guru3d article, the stINQ article, vr-zone'sarticle & the beareyes.com (original source) are based off rumours at present.

Very little is known about the cards & so far best guesses are 128bit/192bit with 256bit looking distinctly remote (ATI is going for 128bit mid range, 64/128bit low end according to latest info).

I wonder if I can step up to the 8600ultra? That would be the sweet spot for most users I think. Reminds me of the good old 6600GT.

8600Ultra looks real good to me, provided it can perform. It could very likely prompt me to upgrade from my X1900AIW.

yeah I hope it perform close or on par with the high end DX9 cards(aside from a 7950GX2). I sold my X1800XT for $200 a couple weeks ago and am holding off for one of these or a 8800GTS 320mb version. Just waiting to see how everything performs.

Of course I might not upgrade till I start seeing some DX10 game patches coming out.

The 8600 Ultra is extremely tempting.

I will wait for R600, see how it is, and if the prices are just too high I'll see if I can get my hands on a 8600 Ultra, or a 8800 GTS (if prices for it also goes down a little).

I'm running a 6600 GT now. If the 8600 Ultra is the return of the 6600 GT, then I'll definitely be getting it.

That said, the difference between the 8600 Ultra and 8600 GT seems to be pretty large for only $30. I really hope these cards deliver on price and performance!

The demand for this card is gonna be sick. It will be over msrp for a while IMO. Its what ive got my eye on.

A lot of things look good on paper, I'm waiting for benchmarks before getting excited.

I agree to all of the above. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm not upgrading anything until I see some games that can actually make use of this hardware, and I'm running a 7900 GT, and games at 1600x1200.

ATI and Nvidia, and maybe even MS, need to do something to get more PC games on the market. These video cards are great, but without good games, they are useless.
