Anyone know how to get the heatsink off a Sapphire "Powered by ATI" 8500LE? There's not mounting holes, so I suspect its attached with some kind of epoxy?

Thanks,

To remove graphics card heatsinks you're supposed to run with stressful 3d tests for a while to heat it up and then use a very flat, dull, perhaps with insulation surface to pry the HS off once you've stressed the gpu to high enough temps. I guess you could unplug any fans too to speed up the process.

Hmm...never heard of that method before. Suppose it would work though. My suggestion, which requires less guess work in terms of heating up your GPU, is this; put your GPU in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. THen take it out after an hour or so and then use a flat head screw driver to take the HS off. But put a business card (or other thin piece of cardboard) between the GPU and screwdriver when you do this. It should pop right off. It will probably leave some "glue" behind. So my suggestion would be to carefully use a razorblade to skim it off.

What would you say is the risk of severe damage to my card? Sounds to me like I'm risking about a 80% chance at demolishing my 55$ here. :p
