8500GT vs. 7300GS in an FPS fight!

Please help me settle a debate I am having on another forum.

If you have two of these cards, at stock, which will have the higher FPS in the majority of games, at a standard resolution?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers,
KT

That's what I would think as well.

Any ideas on what would cause an FPS drop when swapping the 7300GS to the 8500GT, with everything else staying the same? 😕

Yes. You didn't reinstall the drivers.

You may even need to reset the graphics settings in the games.

Not my PC, but yeah I asked them that and they said they changed the drivers. Forgot about the graphics settings resetting; I'll check with them on that.

The 8500GT will eat the 7300GS for lunch! No comparison.

Agreed.

GeForce 8 series beats all comparable cards of the previous series.

Good stuff guys, thanks. This is as I suspected.

Does anyone have any other ideas on what could be causing the slowdown?

Is it possible the card is just faulty?

Thanks,

Well the guy is on a tight budget, so there is not much else he can do. Very good point on the DX10 vs. DX9 though, I had not thought of that. I'll check and see if that is what it is.

Thanks again!

Drivers are one thing that could cause poor performance, you also need to make sure he has enough amps coming from his power supply to run the video card. Probably not an issue but you never know.

Mabe the game is running in dx 10 with the 8500gt and dx 9 with the 7300gs?
EDIT:
Na the 8500gt doesn't beat a 6600gt wow. That card sucks!

I have to say, I think that review is a tad inaccurate - since when can a 6600GT also beat an X1950Pro lol

look at the games they are using

More importantly, look at the Operating System they are using - Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn (Phoronix is a dedicated Linux site). ATI has always had much worse performance under Linux, though I think they are finally starting to catch up. 🙂

Not exactly, the 7900GS and above eat the 8600 and below for lunch... however any 8800 of any kind eats it for breakfast.
