First of all, round figure from someone who's gone through a car restoration, how much time & money are we talking about for a full strip-down & restore? Also, does anyoen know of any reputable places to handle this in the NC area? Thanks.

Talk to notfred. He's got a 'stang from that general time period (his is a little newer though, '88 IIRC).

You're going to spend WAY too much time and money on that thing. Especially for an 85. Why would you even want an 85? You'll end up spending more on paint than the whole car is worth right now.

FWIW, it's cheaper to buy another '85 that's in better shape. I contemplated for the longest time whether or not to pick up a fox...i've driven plenty and literally fell in love with it. I ended up getting a Ford Explorer instead. I can't complain...the 5.0 in my truck is nowhere near as powerful as a fox. Off topic, my friend just picked up a ~'93/94 explorer with a true mustang 5.0 engine and a 5 inch suspension lift...it made me think about putting a suspension lift on my explorer.

BTW, my friend has an '85 T-Top car. He's doing a complete rebuild and conversion to look like an 87-93. He's also putting a 408 stroker in it. He's doing all the work himself (except when people like me go over and help him with it). He's getting the paint for free cause his father in law has a body shop. He's still planning on putting $12-15k into it. And I KNOW the car won't be done before 2005.

I love this car and am willing to dump $20K-$30K into it. I don't care about resale value, this will just be for me alone. It's a black '85 Mustang 5.0 convertible, it's my dream car, it's just showing it's age too much now.

Well, it's going to cost you $20-30k and it's going to take several years.

Everyone has there own taste.

If I would dump $20K on a Mustang I'd get a classic instead. Mmmmm, why not a 66-67.
Good ones can be had for $8K and they look way better IMHO.
