845G round-up? Is this a dead-issue?

Pretty much sums it up. Anyone know if this is now a dead-issue for Anandtech? I know at one time it was Sept., then mid Sept., then next week, etc., etc.

Any official word on this?

845G was dropped because:

1. SiS 648 motherboards were more popular than we had anticipated, which lead us to write several more SiS 648 reviews.
2. Motherboard makers ended up being more supportive of the 845PE/GE chipsets (to be launched next week) than we thought, so 845G was going to be a dead issue even if we had a review up.
3. Quite frankly, I don't have much time. For October, I'm finishing up individual SiS 648 motherboard reviews as we speak (and eventually a SiS 648 roundup), a couple VIA P4X400 reviews, a KT400 roundup (only one more individual KT400 review to be posted), several nForce2 reviews, and 845PE reviews. This leaves little time for 845G, which is old news. :)

Will the new 845GE/PE chipset include 8xAGP

Is the Chipset features listed anywhere (can't find it on intel.com).

October 7th? I don't supposed I'll be able to make a purchase through newegg for that board on that date will I ?

Sorry, I can't say anything until next week. :) But trust me, you'll be seeing 845PE soon enough...

EDIT: Did you check pricewatch.com by the way? They have two 845PE boards listed for sale already (IWILL and Intel-based).
EDIT2: Now three PE boards (Albatron added).

Evan, Looking forward to seeing the new 845PE/GE reviews!

Have to disagree with you there. 845G boards are quite popular, many people have a lot if interest in them despite them being "old news". Since technology moves so fast in the industry, the roundup should have been done when they were "new news". Skip 845G reviews to do P4X400??? I think most people would rather see 845G.

I have to agree with oldfart. If it being old news was a problem then why was there an exception for the 845E roundup made, as it came out you started a thread asking what we wanted to see on the 845G reveiw. Then late august - early September you stated it was pretty much done. If you are not going to post what has already been done, is it possible to get an email of the reveiws you have done? I look forward to your GE/PE reveiws

I wish I could have done so oldfart, but I only published my first article here on July 30th, and only started getting 845G boards the first week of September, a good 3 months after boards had been in the channel.

But anyway, you definitely won't see the same thing happen with 845PE, Granite Bay or anything else.

Sorry but I'm a bit behind in the latest Intel news....
What are these 845PE/GE chipsets??
How are they better than the current 845E/G chipsets?

I'm guessing that the NDA is keeping Evan mum on the specs. By searching on pricewatch I was able to find some info. No agp 8x:(

I agree w/ oldfart. I would have like to see the 845g review over the 648... The lack of a review delayed my purchase, which is actually fine because now I'll get an 845pe that supports hyperthreading and non-overclocked processors over 3GHz :)

According to Google, 845PE/GE's major difference with 845E/G is the "official" support for PC2700 memory. No AGP8X or anything ultra-fancy like that, the feature set is otherwise identical. I'm not sure about Hyperthreading and 3GHz+ CPU support, but I'm sure we will learn more about that shortly.

But before jumping into too harsh conclusions against older 845 chipsets, you have to remember that practically every 845G motherboard (except Intel ones of course) supports DDR333 out of the box. My Epox 4g4a+ automatically detects PC2700 at bootup. Firmware release notes even state that PC3200 would be supported.

I see no reason for people who have recently purchased a 845G-based motherboard (like me) to start worrying about the new chipsets. And actually I kind of detest Intel's chipset rush anyway.

niktheblak pretty much hits the nail on the head, its just a minor launch to provide much needed official DDR333 support
