I'm buying another 1.6a :) this is fun!

I bought this setup (1.6a and P4b266) for $160 and I'm getting a 2nd 1.6a for $105 :D

I'm with you on getting another chip, but I ordered a 1.8A just to see if I would get a newer pack date.
Just have to know for myself how the two compare. :)

you aint gonna get no 166fsb with a 1.8A.
no 166fsb = no 333DDR.
no 333DDR = :(

<EDIT> oh i see :Q (BD7II 150fsb 400ddr) gluck getting there :D

----------------------------------------
....170fsb needed 1.72v to complete the benchmarks.

Anybody got any suggsetions to how (if!) I can get more power out of my 1.6A setup:
1.6A @ 2608 (163fsb)
Asus P4B533-E
Samsung PC2700 2/2/2/6 (1:1)
Retail hsf (didn't want to use too much money)
1.7vcore from bios, 1.76v in Windows (kinda don't like this)
AGP and PCI locked at stock 33/66Mhz
38c idle, 50 under load at a case temp of 35c (have 5 hd's a GF3Ti200 and only 2x 80mm fans in back and slot-fan)

Egrimm ~ nope you are at the end of your rope.
using a retail HSF and 1.76v is a very bad idea.
i hope your arent using the retail TIM (pad) on that too :Q

This is weird...I set my Vcore in bios for 1.7...but in windows it is showing 1.872v idle and 1.79v load...what is going on???

you cannot lower vcore on a p4b266 w/wire mod.
you need to shut off the puter so it will reset itself to 1.7v.

(im assumimg you raised vcore above 1.7v and are now tryin to lower it again)

:)

Thugsrook, did you get another -V board yet? Are you still planning on trying it?

:)

I'm thinking about trying another 1.6A and trying the -V.

Seriously, talk me out of it.

I mean it. ;)

Dude, I got the same pack date for my chip. I also got the same SL number. Hopefully I can hit something high. :)
Just waiting for that damn board...

Thugsrook, actually I think I might try another cpu and play with my board for a while longer, maybe Asus will put out a P4B533 board with the ratios and ram support. Or something. Maybe I'll try a 2.2B as well.....I'm gonna need another job. :p

...or maybe Asus will release a new bios with ratios right around the time the new boards are released :Q

Thought so too myself, oh well, all I wanted was a stable system (which my AthlonXP setup wasn't after I added the fifth hd) and this is faster than the XP1600+ I had before so I'm quite content with a 1Ghz oc :D.
I kinda freaked when I saw it was 1.76v in Windows, in the bios it fluctuates between 1.67 and 1.71 and is usually below 1.7 so I thought it was a bit low, but when I carefully checked PC-Probe it was 1.76. I'll try to lower it and hope it still boots at 2.6, don't want it above 1.75v, preferably lower!

Hmm, under load (when running Seti) the vcore is right in Windows too, 1,67 to 1.71 just like in bios. How come there's such a big difference between vcore when idle and under load?
I'm new to P4s, used to running Athlon setups so please excuse my maybe stupid questions.

Exactly right ;)
@150fsb; 1.6A; Mem 3:4 Sandra was:
CPU 4494/1259/2928
Mem 3024/3018

@160fsb; 1.6A; Mem 1:1 She says:
CPU 4882/1301/3026 1.68v - Temp @ 39C idle / 48C load prime95
Mem 2395/2392 :(

Just have not been able to get 3:4 above 150 (DDR400) with this Samsung Chip.
We shall see! The 1.8A is only 3 hours away at some FedEX sort center. Hope to have it on Monday.
rolleye.gif

I don't want much just 145-150fsb @ 3:4 mem :D

Thugs...
if you feel like expeimenting a little extra extra ...
see if your sis-memory scores are higher in the jumper mode.
try it at 170mhz...
170 from the bios gets me 2574/2572
170 from the jumper gets me 2620/2619
this is on that vm board
170 0n the vm= on-off-on-on-on

would you know the jumper key for 175 fsb?

your mem voltage is in spec for all your mem tests?

Thought that 431w psu would be more than enough but oh well, at least there nothing wrong with my components.

As I run Seti all the time and thus have it under load should I worry about the idle vcore of 1.76v? It's kinda irritating since I'm afraid it's not stable with less than 1.7v which it doesn't get under load then if I set the vcore down in the bios.

I hope not everyone has a 2.5ghz + system to run seti on....

Doesn't anyone actually do work or something useful, like play CTF on Unreal Tournament? :D

I play WarCraft 3 on it, does that count?
I can just as well leave Seti running all the time, never felt a performance hit; not on this machine or on my old Athlon XP 1600+.
