Not a far cry or streatch since you're already running Sandra, but can you also put in the OVERCLOCK Voltage column the PCI speed also? 🙂

OVERCLOCK Voltage
1600mhz 100fsb/33 = 1.56v (default)
2133mhz 133fsb/33 = 1.56v (default)
2240mhz 140fsb/34 = 1.56v (default)

or something to that tune.... 😀

....166fsb needed 1.67v to complete the benchmarks 🙂

170fsb is next.....

still going strong! ...and im still using .025v less vcore then my "other" 1.6A 🙂

Sounds like it is comparable to mine then...same packing date....Mine did 2.4ghz at 1.6v in bios or 1.54v actual...

Likely your temps look better so you will push yours....🙁

I can't...This board will in fact throttle around 65-66c and that cheap POS thermaltake hs allowed me to see that....I will hit low 60's with 1.68v and 2.72ghz....I don't know how but it does with this f^cking Epox mobo....

Exact percentage I set in bios was exactly what my sandra scores were off while running it and prime95....Now at 58c with old avc my scores are exactly what they are supposed to be...

yea that ultra high temp reading can be a drawback when it comes to throttling.

BTW: this cpu is a good 5*C cooler than my older one. (running prime95 @ 166fsb is 42*C right now)

I think I am going to toss this epox.....I also need to revamp my case cooling cause I notice that radeon le is pumping out heat as I am watching dvd and cranking away on prime and that air is drawing in over chipset hs and cpu....temp is like 58c right now and that hs is pretty warm and blowing warm air all over the board....

It is muggy and hot in portland toay...room is an uncharacteristic 83f right now so system temp is reporting 30c.....I normally see 24-25c and then only get like 52-53c full load in prime...

If this epox is screwing me by reporting higher temps then that puts me too close to that throttle temp and I wont be able toboost her up to 2.27ghz which I believe can be safe at 1.68v actual....

Off to do some research!!!!

get the board (Asus) before you go nuts on the case and spend $.
those temps of yours could be off by even more than we realize.

the SiS645 was not a good example of a good Asus board. even tho it managed to run your fried cpu for quite some time and your epox couldnt run it OC'ed at all!

WHSLacrossekid youve got plenty more vcore to work with. limit yourself to 1.7v actual and keep going 🙂

hehe - Duvies gonna hate me for this...

current room temp = 25*C
current CPU temp = 28*C
current board temp = 27*C
(@ 166fsb 1.67v)

alpha HSs rock 🙂

let me ask you something thug, what's the best way to tell if it's gonna be stable at that vcore? I oculd be sitting here surfing, and i get a hard freeze! Is there anyway test that would be able to tell if it's not gonna be stable in a few mins?

Prime95 for 1 hour is a good indicator of a system that is close to being 100% stable.

vcore voltage kinda works like this....

1.6v = you can boot windows - but benchmarks fail
1.625v = you can run some benchmarks but not all of them
1.65v = you can run all benchmarks but cant prime95 for an hour
1.675v = you can prime95 for 3 hours
1.7v = you can prime95 for 18 hours

see what im getting at here?

I guess this means your 05/20/02 pack date was a good one. Damnit. Same date as mine, but mine was dead!! GRRR. Hopefully the one I ordered Wedsday will be a good one.

Jwyatt ~ yes my new chip runs on .025v less voltage at the same fsb.
im still working my way up. im only gonna go 1.75v max. (maybe 1.8v for the scores) 😉
all temps are lower on this chip too.

2.48 seems stable at 1.632 VCore. @ 44C

Got Prime but this is my first time using it. Is there anyway to bypass the "Getting Exponents from server" crap in the beginning?

What? You mean the voltage? Well, I have the vid trick done. Bios shows 1.7v, but this MSI board way undervolts. Its running at 1.57-1.632v using MBM and Sandra

hmmm, you know - i wonder if we are all wrong.
and not 1 of us is getting accurate voltage or temps readings at all.
the bios is probably wrong and the program trying to read that is probably even wronger :Q

<end rant>

is wronger even a word? 😉

Your probably not wrong about the statment though. If ASUS/MSI/ABIT/EPOX and the slew of other big names out there would get thier heads out of thier asses and creat some sort of standard it would make our game alot better!

Hey Thugs - What are your temps running @ the 1.60v? Mine have been 48C with Prime running and ambiant room temp @ 23C.

I second that....

I am wondering why with a room of 25c and a system temp of 26-27c that I get a cpu load of 55c currently cranking away at prime and watching a dvd....

I have no push over for a hsf (avc from pcpowercooling.com for 20.00)....specs at 33cfm, 38db, 70mm fan at 4200 rpm on a decent hs with an embedded copper core....Far better then the retail hsf of 2700rpm and aluminum...yet ppl running stock hsf near my speeds and at or higher vcore temps kicking my butt....

I can't explain it....

I can tell you the mobo will throttle and I have seen it with the crappy thermaltake...so if they are running higher then actual temps they will eventually screw my mission to go up a bit to 1.7v and try to get 2.75ghz....

Edit: you know...since msi, abit, and epox have been known to throw higher scores maybe it is asus reporting errored temps....I mean maybe they hated the rap they got with their amd boards reporting so much higher then others they decided to under report this time...😉 that idle temp report of thugs seems down right absurd!!!

I did. I got Prime errors, and chit. then a cold restart haha..

I'm buying another 1.6a 🙂 this is fun!

I bought this setup (1.6a and P4b266) for $160 and I'm getting a 2nd 1.6a for $105 😀

Jwyatt ~ yep, wronger 😛

jhites ~ i didnt bother to prime95 160fsb only because i know this system very well.
here is my prime95 temps @ 166fsb 1.69v.

room temp = 25*C

CPU idle temp = 28*C
CPU max temp = 44*C

board idle temp = 27*C
board max temp = 29*C

Duvie ~ if thats true, its a smart move on Asus's part 😉

like i said before - this CPU runs alot cooler then my last one!
