I tried running my Corsair PC3200 with 2/2/2/5 settings and Prime95 errored out. I haven't experimented any further because I'm trying to find out if upping the DDR voltage would help and would be safe (I'm all about messing around with settings, but I get parnoid about breaking stuff). I'm still running my 1.6A @ 2.4 because I haven't updated my bios yet (I need to run downtown and buy some floppys!).

Anyway, great info Thugsrook and OldFart, very very interesting.

😀

You are only @ DDR300 now. You should be able to easily run fastest cas timings with the XMS. Try going to 2.6 V on the mem.

Prime95 is CPU dependent...so i would suggest UPPING VCORE...

SupermanCK,

That is untrue!!!! Prime will test also the memory subsystem and mobo chipset....When ever I have gotten a hardware failure error instead of the simple rounding error (which has always been fixed with a vcore boost if I have it) I have backed off of memory timings and then it doesn't error out....How do you explain this??? This has happened 3 times since I have used this software over the last year and everytime I have corrected it with adjustment to ram speed, voltage or timings....

As Duvie said. Prime95 stresses CPU/memory subsystem. Any instability in either will cause an error. Just having a cas setting too aggresive will case an error.

actually there is something that Prime95 doesnt test, drive DMA.

i was 100% prime stable, except for that 😉
had to slow my ram to 2226 (was 2225 @ 33.3PCI)

weird huh? 😉

i am sorry for not mentioning the other factors...so there you have it...voltage...time setting...ram speed...and possibly more...

Sorry I was away so long, got the rest of my stuff today, woo hoo! Spent all evening swapping over to my new case and getting new hardware setup. Anyway....

"Try going to 2.6 V on the mem" Oldfart, that's what I was trying to research (limits and such), upping the memory voltage. My memory is rated at 2/3/3/6, and I figured I should be able to easily go down to 2/2/2/5 like Thugsrook suggested a long time ago. So I'll give it a try.

"PC3200 is rated at 2.5-3-3... " SupermanCK, my Corsair XMS 3200 is rated at 2/3/3/6.

So now that I have all my stuff up and running, I'm going to do some testing, I've been looking forward to this for more than a week!

😉🙂

Thanks for the help everyone!

I just assumed that pc3200 is just a tested overclocked version of pc3000...since it's using slower mem setting at higher bus speed...

Just bought a 1.6a and a stick of oem dr333 w/ samsung chips. looking for mobo recs. for a good stable system above 2 ghz. Thanks.

My apologies everyone, I was wrong. The reason why I thought I had cas 2 XMS is MWave listed it as Cas 2, I'm sure of it. I just checked their site and it's listed as 2.5. So, Though I'm sure it was cas 2, and I think their site was wrong and they've since changed it, I couldn't been wrong about that.

Also, and this is was what cemented it in my head, is that when my bios detects my memory automatically, it lists 2/3/3/6, which would be cas 2, right?

Anyway, I'm sorry about the confusion, and sorry I didn't get back earlier, this week's been crazy for me, no time on the computer!:frown:
