MBprobe is saying my CPU is running at 83 celcius  . I have no idea whats causing this. I am running a 1600+@1600+ 1.5/6v (lower that default voltage). I know this can't be right as my system never crashes, locks, gives errors, ect. At this temp should my CPU be locking up alot or something?

a Tailso(spelling on the brand may not be right) copper base with a 80mm Panaflo L1A. They use to stay around 50-60 celcius. I don't know whats going on. I know the panaflo L1A does vibrate a little.

Few days ago I tried some compressed air on the L1A and in and around the CPU heatsink. It blew out quite a bit of dust but my temps are still reading high. I can touch my heatsink while its running this hot and it is just barely warm. I think its giving bogus temps or my CPU isnt getting good contact with my heatsink.

a Taisol? GCK7600xxx is what i have (I presume its a gck760- since copper base) on a 2400xp and im sitting at 41C; was similar with the 1600xp. If it is that heatsink, it can handle it fine, its also AMD approved for 2700+ i think (model approved merely comes with honeywell grease instead of the thermal pad). Its a good cooler, check it's on properly.
[edit: this fan is 60x80mm; and comes with a 60x60x15mm fan btw, since you have a 80mm I presume i guessed wrong /]

other taisol models

Maybe the sensor reading the temp is wrong. Also, it depends the temp in your room.

Thats correct Dave Taisol is the name. And thats the exact cooler I got using ASII. May take the L1A off and put a 60mm back on there. But man its much quiter with the L1A.

swapping fan takes 1min, so give it a shot. If temps stay high, reseat the HSF.

I tried swapping taisol's 80x80x15 fan with a YS-Tech 80x80x25; I think it got slightly better cooling (only like 1C) but felt at the time noise had increased a touch so replaced with original fan again. Actually its probably a touch noisier but not worth replacing the fan again until next time im opening up the comp anyway (my case is heavy and cumbersome).

Just reinstall the Heatsink with a new layer of ASII and make sure the software you are using is not reporting incorrectly. I have a K7S5A that reports a temp of 80c or so with Motherboard Monitor 5, temps are nowhere near that high when I check BIOS temps though.

Why don't you use Motherboard Monitor before doing any of these things... My asus probe and the BIOS report the wrong reading ...

Yeah, what does the BIOS report?

And try reapplying the heatsink, and see if that does anything to the temperature.

my system probe reports some ungodly number for my mobo/cpu temperature (like a melting temp) needless to say I ignore it.

OH GOD! 83C is not a good thing - I had an overheating prob with my 2100+ @ 55C, so I picked up a COOLERMASTER heatpipe from newegg.com - it was around 27-37 bucks, and lowered my temp to 30C.
