82" LCD - info inside

Ok, given my participation in an earlier thread about the merits of LCDs vs. CRTs - I happily concede that I've yet to see an 82" CRT display. 🙂 But the resolution of this monster-sized LCD panel, is still only 1920x1080, which is just under the max res of some of the higher-end CRTs that I mentioned before. Still, this thing is probably amazing to watch HD movies on, from across the room. No mention of the final end-user cost for a display containing that panel though.

Yep, I agree, I'd like the resolution to be a little higher for something that large. But take a look at the competition (PDP, DLP), you'd be HARD pressed to find any of those that can do 1080p (1920x1080). This looks to be more aimed at movie watching, rather than high res gaming. It should actually be perfect for movie watching as you won't see ANYTHING being broadcasted greater than 1080p for a LONG time.

Now where is my dual DVI? 😉

Cool, but you'd have to be like 30ft away from it so you wouldn't get major pixelation.

I also noticed there is no mention of price on this monster. But I'm sure it comes with a monster price tag. 🙁

~10ft away and you should be fine. I sit around 13ft away from my X1 and I can't see any screendoor effect.

82" is still kind of small though. I'll still take Panny AE700 or Sanyo Z3 LCD projector and 120" Vutec Silverstar screen over this 82" LCD even though this Samsung has higher resolution.

Well they made it 1080 because that's the HD resolution. If it had to be scaled from 2048x1536 it would look worse. If they can do 1280x1024 on a 17" they probably have to capability to do whateverXwhatever on an 82" they just chose not to 🙂. What bigger resolution is there that's standard for 16:9? If it had to scale to something 'smaller' like 1080 it would look worse and defeat the purpose of HDTV.

On the specification it says 8ms. response time MAXIMUM. That's impressive, especially with an 82" LCD.
