815 Chipset - - - Does it Support ISA?

In my quest for a motherboard I notice no 815 chipset
board has any ISA slots. Are ISA slots not supported by
the 815 chipset or are ISA slots going the way of the dinosaur?

Hmm,i didn't notice that before... well, it does look like ISA is headed for the grave

ISA is headed the way of the dinosaur - in theory so are serial, parallel, and mouse and keyboard ports. PCI replaces ISA and USB replaces all of the ports.

On the plus side, eliminating ISA results in a noticeable (in benchmarks, anyway) improvement in performance since the system no longer interrupts to poll the ISA bus.

The i815 can do ISA, but only if you add a seperate PCI-ISA bride. However, since that would require a lot of additional traces, it's something that's mostly avoided on i815 boards.

pm, I don't understand, I thought things like the PS2 keyboard, PS2 mouse, serial and parallel ports are all connected by the ISA bus? So how is it possible to remove the ISA bus and still keep those things?

My Intel D815EEA motherboard, which is based on the 815i Chipset, doesn't have any ISA slot.

All Intel 8xx chipsets don't support ISA natively. In order to have ISA, you'd have to add an extra chip (PCA-ISA bridge), driving cost upwards. Obviously, 8xx board makers don't do that.
