Worst decade is the current one, followed by the 90's. The 70's was the best. Sure, disco sucked, but you had:
Led Zeppelin
Kiss
Eagles
Stones
Foghat
Steve Miller Band
Black Sabbath
I could go on and on and on.
The 80's was pretty good, lots of variety: heavy metal, pop, start of Rap (if you like that cr@p)

and in the 80's, we have the emergence of:
U2
Prince
Michael Jackson (80's MJ is still ok to reference)
New Order
The Smiths
Depeche Mode
The Cure
Metallica
Nirvana (Bleach came out in 89)
Motley Crue
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
Danny Elfman/Oingo Boingo
Springsteen (at his best)
the Police/Sting
Genesis
Robert Cray
Wynton Marsalis
Eurythmics
Dire Straits
Quincy Jones and all his recordings
Michael W. Smith
Randy Newman
Talking Heads
Marvin Gaye (Sexual Healing)
Miles Davis (winning Grammy's year after year)
George Thorogood and the Destroyers
Elvis Costello
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Joe Satriani
Rush (Moving Pictures in 1981)
Van Halen (1984)

plus, the 80's introduced the world to the CD and digital music.

No Guns!?!

Easily the best decade of music ever.
Music of the 80's were some of the most originals.

The music of today just plain suck.
The idea of a hit song of today is:

Find a good chorus(or borrow it from a hit song), then base your whole song around it.
Basically it goes like this...start rapping, then INSERT the chorus(preferablly someone singing it), then back to rap, then play the chorus....REPEAT.....You have your self a hit song.

P Diddy made hit living off of this:
How many hit songs did he borrow, took the chorus off that song and made a HIT out of it ????
Prop to him for finding what works but how unoriginal.

Ummm.... Why did you say Genesis emerged from the 80's? Genesis is from the late 60's. And Tom Petty didnt emerge from the 80's. Tom Petty is early 70's. And Van Halen? 1984? Van Halen released their first album in 1978, and so did Dire Straits. And George Thorogood released his first album in 1977.

What's more original than taking something, and turning it into something brand new?

Which was a talent confined to the 80's. I guess you're right Ctrain, original music doesn't exist anymore. And yes all music has rap in it, and most importantly all music has MUTHA FVCKING VOCALS. Instrumentals do exists, and yes some of them are badass.

the 80s saw the apex of Iron Maiden's success, ergo the 80s was the greatest decade of music.

End of Thread.

Rap was born in the 80s too. I don't see that listed anywhere, but Blondie is considered as one of the original rappers (commercialy).

NO! Best is from 1964-1990. I should know because I lived through these times. ;) I say 1990 because Queensryche released the Empire album in 1990 and it was a good album, and Scorpions released that one album, cant remember its name, but the song Wind of Change was on that album
