80mm to 60mm adapter or GC68???

I have a SVC Golden Gate heatsink with the stock AMD fan attached. I'm want to improve my cpu cooling while keeping the relative quiet (per fiance's orders). What is a better solution...using a speed adjustable 80mm fan + adapter with my Golden Gate, or pulling the Golden Gate and buying a GC68? Thanks.

I had the volcano 6cu+ and it was killing me because it was so high pitched and really loud. I thought about the 60mm to 80mm adapter. The adapters run from 13-20 depending on aluminum or plastic. The gc68 was 12.99 with artic alumina for free so I went with that.

You might also check the Volcano 7+ here or here. It will come with a 3 speed fan (manually adjustable), according to reviews the low and medium settings are very quiet and it performs comparable to the best HSF's out there.

A dealer I talked to said that both the Volcano 7+ and AX-7 will be available towards the end of this month / beginning of March, their preliminary prices are $45 for the Volcano with fan, and $30 for the AX-7 w/o fan. I'm thinking of getting the AX-7 with Enermax adjustable speed fan, but haven't made up my mind yet.

havent seen the volcano 7+ yet.....damn....that thing looks sweet....wont change my cooling, but for looks.. i think i might have to check that baby out =)
