No capping intended, but outpost.com has Kingston Hypermedia 12x 80min 700mb 50 spindle pack for $12.95 w/ free overnight shipping. The bottom surface is silver with a tiny hint of blue. I id the cdr and it read
manufacturer: CMC (i think) dye: pythalocyanine 6
link

The Kingston 8x for 9.95 is crap though. Dark blue and dye is cyanine 0. Doesn't burn well at 8x.

I've ordered that 12x 50pack from Outpost and have been very happy with them.... They play in my friend's car whereas no other burnt CDs have... It's definitely a good quality dye from the color; very reflective...

The 12x Kingston's I got from Outpost were goldish-green. They're ok--my burner usually likes the light bluish-bluish ones better though.

CMC isn't always crap. That's what they use on Imations, and in my experience (I've burned a sh*t load of cds) they haven't given me a single problem. And Imations have Cyanine die (they're blue). Pthalocyanine is much better because it's much more reflective. Type 6 should be good, although type 9 is the ultimate best.

Great deals guys! Keep it up.

itsmeeh et. al., thanks for the detailed explanation of why you feel folks should just toss their Kingston spindles like you did. It's obvious that your CD-RW drive, burning software, PC etc. are all the cream of the crop and that the Kingston media are the only weak link in the chain. I must have a pretty f*d up setup or something because the Kingston 700MB/12x media burn just fine for me. Not a coaster yet.

Taiyo Yuden, Cyanine: Type 1 made in Japans at Outpost. Those are great!

I second the Kingston. When i can find a good deal i buy Kodak/Sony, but it is hard to shell out the bucks when i can get them shipped to my front door for 12.95---I use them in my plex scsi/my kids use em in their plex ide and ricoh scsi and memorex ide. No problems

I think that Kingston CD's are fine. They work on my 12x Plex! What doesn't! HAHA! Well I think that Kingston Media is the same exact ones as Imation. If you ID the 74 min and the 80 min Kingston they have the same exact info as the Imation at the same speed and amount of info to burn. In fact if you look at the 12x the coating on the writable side look almost identical except for each each other's own brand name. Can anyone tell me if these two discs are any different?
