What gave you the impression that anybody was interested in your opinion on this? Was it your level of contribution to these forums (5 posts)?

If you do not like a post, move along and read the next one. Do not thread crap.

Thanks allisolm for the deals. Please keep up the good work.

1) In 2004 - A.D. The going retail price of IDEs AND SATA disk drives was 50 cents per gigabyte - regularly. (SATA's actually were less)
lol! Uniformly SATA drives have been more expensive than PATA drives. Until recently, truly informed persons could be seen arguing (quite correctly) that not only were SATA drives more expensive but there was no meaningful performance benefit except in the case of WDC Raptors, which were in fact (and still are) significantly more expensive.

To this day, you cannot find 80GB 7200RPM 8MB drives selling for $40 REGULAR price. I challenge you to prove otherwise. Not even OEM/bulk 80GB 5400RPM 2MB drives sell for $40 REGULAR price, unless you count refurbs or volume purchases (10+). The lowest price on Pricewatch for a new 80GB drive is $43 (5400RPM 2MB).

Next you'll be arguing that recent memory deals such as 512MB of quality PC3200 memory selling for less than $30.00 AR are not hot deals because this was the 'regular' everyday price for RAM throughout 2004.

What mental institution were you recently released from?

I like the TV deal for the 27" for $175 but my roomates want a 32" TV and I don' t think that's worth $100 more personally.

There should be a FAQ here for what is a HOT deal for hard drives.

There are allegedly "tech people" here at the forums - yet continue to post b.s. "hot deals" for hard drives. (not saying the people posting them are techs)

To clarify for people that don't know - This is information to INFORM you; to make the community stronger and put a halt to this proliferation of B.S. (doubtfully w/amount of morons)
Per forums rules, if you respond like a moron that posts these so called deals - you are not providing informed information, just bwaaaa "I like the deals", etc.

1)
In 2004 - A.D. The going retail price of IDEs AND SATA disk drives was 50 cents per gigabyte - regularly.(SATA's actually were less)
2)
The mfgs realized - "hey people are idiots" and will accept that the new tech - SATA - should cost more - it does NOT. It costs less to mfg the SATA drives.
3)The NCQ and other "new features" everyone rants over - are not always, nor the majority of time beneficial - do your own research.
4)The mfg of the NCQ/other drives leads to mfgs trying to offload all of the other drives, but instead of lowering the prices, they keep them the same or add "rebates" because morons here/elsewhere think the prices are so good.
5)a REGULAR, everytime price for HDD, ide or SATA w/7200 rpm should never be paid for above 50 cents/gigabyte
6)a HOT DEAL would be something that is at LEAST only 25 cents a gigabyte

Stay informed, stop accepting the prices you think are hot, or else you are stuck with them.
What do you think would be the affect upon mfgs if morons could resist posting b.s. here for just a couple of months?

NOooo!!! The deals would not be HOT, they would go back to NORMAL pricing of 50 cents/gigabyte - and when a sale happened, then yes, they'd be HOT, eg: 25 cents a gig.

LOL - if that isn't elitism and arrogance, i'm not sure what is. I appreciate this forum for the simple fact that when someone thinks they have found a deal that helps them, they simply share it with others in the hopes that it helps them as well. Sometimes those deals are great deals. Other times they're not so hot (though i really do think this is a great deal on the drive regardless of wether or not i am a hard-headed, closed-minded, friend of the machine 😉). But that's the beauty of the forum, if they're great, other people will benefit, if they're not so great, then some people might benefit (depending on their circumstances and if they need something right away) but the rest can look at it, say "nah, i don't think i'll go for this" and move on.
Contrary to "popular opinion" - people on these forums typically do a good job figuring out what is hot and not and providing a great atmosphere to look for great deals... like .25/gig hard drives

Stalking again? You had an issue with my posting CompUSA deals, now you have issues with the rest? As someone else said, then don't read them. Personally, I think an 80GB drive for $20 is a really good deal, and even better if the 10% off coupon slides by. So don't go away mad, just go away. 🙂

Allisolm,

Just wanted to say that I have always appreciated your hot deal threads. Every weekend I look for them. I don't understand these stalkers. If you don't like a thread, just don't read them. And definitely don't reply to them.

Got the 80GB. This is a perfect drive for upgrading TiVos (sorry if doing that isn't technical enough for some people here). The coupon didn't work for me on that. 🙁 (Not that it was supposed to, but it has in the past for some.)

Coupon worked on the FAR phone, so that was $31.49 with a $35 MIR and it worked on the 50pk Memorex 8X DVD+R for $8 that they had on the clearance table. Small savings but 50 for $7.20 no rebates sits fine with me.

Thanks for the support, guys. I don't know what prompted user1234 to start picking on deals I post, but he's been doing it for awhile. I believe the problem has ended.

Is it me or is that 15" LCD a freaking TERRIBLE deal?

Not crapping just think that Best buy has to be kidding with that deal. If you dont mind the rebates the 800JB is a very good deal.

LOL, me thinks testyza is luser1234's alternate evil+ ego. 😉

Let's see if we can explain this to our friends. For years it has been common practice here and other popular hot deal forums to post sales of major retailers before the sale starts. This is especially true for holiday sales. It gives everyone a chance to see what's on sale in an easy to read format, do research, get feedback from other members familiar with the product, decide if they need / want something that's on sale and plan their buying time. And, it gives some people a chance to order the sale item online at midnight who are not near the B&M store and would not have a chance to get a sale item once the sales flyer was delivered in the morning. Are all the sale items hot? Certainly not, some of them are and if someone needs a sale item and it costs less than other retailers then that's a hot deal for them.

That's good to hear. 🙂

Once again, forget about getting 10% off the hard drive.

10% off is only good toward EXTERNAL hard drives, not internal (this is confirmed.)

Okay, but I've seen it confirmed that some people DID get the 10% off on the hard drives - the cashiers did manual overrides. YMMV.

Well, despite what some might think, I thought this was a great deal...

Timing was right, as my 80GB Tivo drive went bad 5 days ago and I ended up pulling a storage drive out of one of my kids computers to replace it....(don't worry, the kid's computer still work, I just used the storage drive to mount CD images so that the kid's don't have to keep switching CD to play their games).

Also, I've had a $20 Best Buy rebate card that's been sitting in my wallet for almost a year now. I don't particularly like BB & don't shop there unless there's a Hot Deal that I have to get in on (that $20 rebate card was from the last BB Hot Deal I took advantage of).

So Allisolm, your Hot Deal post definitely came in handy.

Here's My total cost:

Drive Cost - $89.99
7% Tax - $6.30
=============
Subtotal - $96.29
Less Card - $20.00
Less Rebates $70.00
=============
Total Cost = $6.29 ( < $.08/GB)

Thanks Allisolm!

Now I can put the kid's computer back together. 🙂

I was interested in the "Joint Operations" game - listed as 2/ $20.00 but the clerk wouldn't sell me the game for $10.00, had to buy 2.

I'm not sure they had any of the other 3 games they offered, I picked up the last "Joint OPs".

Has anyone been able to buy just 1 of the games they advertised for $10.00?

I can guarantee you that at least 75% of the people who frequent this forum know more about current technology than you do. In fact, your post leads me to think you are just a thread crapping ignoramus. There are always better deals, if you are only buying to get good prices, you can always wait out something else. This, however, is a good deal for those people who need a drive right now so take your high horse punk self and please either contribute positively or don't post to the forums.

The 10% coupon works depending on your cashier and location. Many will just override and let it count. Good luck to those who try.

that's quite a flogging you gave. it's ironic when you make sweeping statements that you have no way of knowing to be accurate, such as "75% of the people who frequent this forum know more about current technology than you do" that you feel superior to others.

you can't use the coupon either, so you are giving further notice of your very limited knowledge. besides, there is a much better deal at this location:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product...sp?ref=cj&product_code=298017&pfp=cat3

160 GB for only $10 more

so this isn't such a great deal after all

That's assuming you have a CrapUSA in town. Locally, I only have access to BB, Staples & OfficeMax.

CrapUSA, CC & OD are 45 minutes away in El Paso, TX. Not the longest of Treks, but I try to avoid EP, TX unless work forces me there.

Makes me miss to days of living in LA with a Fry's just 4 blocks away...

You have to buy 2 at the same time.

But don't try to use the 10% software coupon at the same time because the computer will then up the price back to $19.99 before applying the 10% off!

I bought Tribes and the Trials of Riddick game. I also bought Easy Media Creator 7.5. I asked the clerk if I could use the 10% coupon off any software over $19.99 on the Easy Media Creator 7.5.

I was shocked when the price went up $10 after using the coupon! I wish Best Buy would fix that bug in their register systems. Very annoying. Anyways, I didn't say anything. Oh well... it's okay. These things have a way of evening out. There are days when I get an unexpected good deal...perhaps something nice will happen in the future to make up for this.

Your deals are pretty crappy, but some of allisonm's are great. You have no room to talk.

I was able to get the 10% off using the coupon, and I hope others were, too. I did a bestbuy.com purchase for customer pickup, but then I showed the coupon in the store and the customer service rep gave the 10% off after looking over the coupon. They had to give me the 10% as a store credit (something about having to do a receiptless return for the bestbuy.com purchase), but I didn't care. ~$18 after tax/rebates for this drive is great. Thanks a lot for posting the deal Allisolm!
