Does anyone make one besides apple (ipod classic)?

I would like a new MP3 player but i require it to have at least 80 gigs of storage more is always better. It also MUST be able to show up as a removable drive in windows with drag/drop ability.

I don't care about syncing software
i don't care about video
i don't care about aps
i don't care about a touch screen
i don't care about a color screen

i simply want a large storage device that i can dump the majority of my music on, has the ability to be drag and dropped to, has a shuffle all function and fits in my pocket.

i should add that i refuse to buy an ipod because of the scroll wheel and shitty interface, regardless of it fits my needs or not

Rockbox fixes Apple's shitty interface. Basically you can skin it to look like whatever you want, and Rockbox gives you drag-and-drop to boot. It's not possible to install it on a newer iPod Classic, but works great on the iPod Video (5 and 5.5g).

(I modified the skin shown in the last image for my iPod 80GB - text only, works great!)

Oh yea... since you own a Droid - they are working on an Android port too:

You're basically not going to find something like that now days. Most hard drive players are gone, and the few remaining have giant screens (Archos 5) or are an iPod.

You can still find Zune 120's around, but they do not show up as USB mass storage devices.

Before I won my ZuneHD in a contest, I was looking for exactly what you wanted. My ZuneHD only gets used in my car, and only to play .mp3's. I really wish there were still dumb .mp3 players with giant storage capabilities. I have to periodically shuffle things in and out of my Zune...

I'm surprised there isn't some cheap Chinese player available, that comes with a screen, amp, battery and headphone jack and will accept say a 2.5" hard drive or something (barebones mp3 player?).

Man, I miss my old Archos 5. Had 100gb and a beautiful screen and served as a DVR too boot. Dropped a glass of water on it and killed it.

Do you have a smartphone? Would you consider streaming your music?

I've been using Subsonic for almost six months now, and I have no problems whatsoever streaming my entire music library (1000+ hours) at 320kbps over 3g. It's free, check it out.

ill check that out when im home from work (blocked), bit i mainly use my mp3 player so i don't have to kill my phones battery, or when i cant like on a plane.

another vote for subsonic, but a small correction. it's not free after the initial period. you have to buy a code to unlock the server for continued mobile streaming use.

accessing it from a web interface is always free however

i've been using it for a while, it's worth the $, but not a substitute for your entire collection on one device
