Staples just started a clearance on Maxtor 80GB Firewire external hard drives as of today. Original price is $199.98, clearance price is $29.50. This should be a nationwide clearance, and is confirmed on the east coast. Product code is XO1FWRA080 and Staples SKU is 443938. In-store only, not available online, not available over the phone.

I just called a few local staples (Southern Cal) and the first 2 were sold out. The 3rd had 4 of them but said they were still ringing up at 199.95. Must be an East Coast thing.

confirmed 29.50 price is in the computer on the east coast at 3 different stores, so perhaps it'd be worth it to buy at 200 hoping the price in the computer will drop, if not just return them. Only out a little effort, and the store help's aggrevation

I called a store in Colorado and the guy said that he didn't have any. As a matter of fact, he said that the whole western region is pretty much cleaned out. He also said that I was the 10th person to call already today.... LOL!!! He did verify the $29.50 price. He also asked me where I heard about this!! I just told him on the internet, nowhere specific. Don't want to be giving away any secrets....
